Neighborhood group plans to meet Thursday

Neighborhood Connections will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 101 N. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. During the meeting, Old Town Cape executive director Marla Mills will introduce Jason Coulter, a neighborhood redeveloper. In addition, the group will work Saturday at Friends of the Park Day. Pachyderms to meet at Dexter Bar-B-Que

The Southeast Missouri Pachyderms will meet for a meal at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau, with a meeting to follow at 7. The Southeast Missouri State University College Republications will also present a program. For more information, call Gerald Adams at 243-4199.

Garden to be cleaned as part of park day

The May Greene Garden at Fountain and Themis streets will be cleaned, weeded and planted with new flowers at 10 a.m. Saturday as part of Friends of the Park Day. The public is invited to participate, or to pick up trash or pull a few weeds anytime without supervision. Civil War Roundtable plans meeting, speaker

The Civil War Roundable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The speaker will be Mike Hahn, who will give a presentation on "Company G." Plans for the club's picnic and cookout will be made and Park Day activities will also be discussed.

Domestic violence workshop planned

The deadline to register for a free, one-day multidisciplinary workshop to discuss a coordinated community response to domestic violence is April 24. Intended to promote multidisciplinary dialogue among judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, batterer intervention staff, probation and parole officers, advocates and court personnel, training begins at 9 a.m. May 22 at Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. Breakfast and lunch are complimentary. Registration applications are available online at www.regonline.com/domesticviolenceworkshop.

Poetry presentation planned by students

"An Evening of Poetry" will be held in celebration of National Poetry Month from 7 to 9 p.m. April 22 at the Cape Girardeau Library. Dr. Susan Swartwout's Advanced Poetry class, including Ben Marxer, Marcia Herring, Cole Windler, Kris Yesley, Mandy Henley, Nicole Peats, Joshua Smith and Kelli Weyend, will read some of their original compositions.

Passport fair to be held at Cape public library

A passport fair conducted by the U.S. Postal Service will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26 at the library. Free information sheets, listing required documents, fees and types of passports are available at the library check-out desk. Passport applications for those wishing to fill them out in advance may be picked up at the library Information desk. Applications may also be obtained at the post office at 302 N. Frederick St. or downloaded online at the U.S. Department of State Web site, www.travel.state.gov.

Trivia night May 2 to benefit Relay for Life

A trivia night to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life will begin at 6 p.m. May 2 at the VFW Hall in Cape Girardeau. The trivia will begin at 7. Teams should register by calling Sharee Galnore at 335-7908.
