Teen Show Me Missouri to emcee K-9 pageant

Becky Koeller, a student at R.O. Hawkins Junior High School in Jackson who was recently named 2004 Teen Show Me Missouri, will emcee the 2004 K-9 Missouri Outdoors Queen/King Pageant. The pageant will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the K-9 Training and Doggie Daycare Activity Center, 423 North Broadview, Cape Girardeau. K-9 Queen and King will receive awards and trophies. Chaffee elementary choir presents musical journey

The Adventures of Lewis and Clark will be presented by the third- and fourth- grade choir of Chaffee Elementary School at 7 p.m. tonight at the High School Activities Building.

Cape county Civil War Round Table to meet

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship room at Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau. Dr. John Haller, of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, will present the program "Medicine in Transition, 1830 to 1910." Individuals interested in historical events surrounding the war between the states are invited to attend. Guests are welcome. Jackson Area Arts Council meeting at library

The Jackson Area Arts Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today in the community room located on the third floor of the Jackson Public Library. All are welcome to discuss the Arts Council Newsletter; Web link to the city of Jackson Web page; StarCatcher Theatre update; 2004 Tourism Grant Funding; and July 4th Art in the Park. Caring Council Friday meeting canceled

The Friday Community Caring Council meeting has been canceled. Ordinarily this meeting is a nominating opportunity for council members to fill the five positions on the Community Caring Council's board of directors. These positions need to be filled this April. A list of nominees includes Nancy Jernigan, Paul Schniedermeyer and Molly Strickland, all whose board terms are expiring; as well as Cindy Schmoll, Lynne Cairns and Ruth Dockins. Please let us know by e-mail, phone, or written letter if you would like to nominate someone. Nominees will be voted on at the Annual Breakfast and Business Meeting at 7:30 a.m. April 16 at the Career and Technology Center in Cape Girardeau. If you haven't already signed up for the breakfast, please call Martha at 651-3747 to register. A breakfast buffet will be available. There is a cost.

Main Street Fitness giving 'Parents Night Out'

Southeast Missouri Hospital's Main Street Family Fitness Center is sponsoring "Parents Night Out" from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Parents can enjoy an evening out while children ages 6 to 13 join certified children's fitness specialist Millie Aufdenberg for exercise, crafts, snacks and fun activities. A fee applies. Marble Hill making plans for Paul Bunyan Day

The first planning meeting for Paul Bunyan Day will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Sweet Aroma Coffee House and Eatery in Marble Hill. Everyone is invited to be a part of this Marble Hill event which includes a log rolling competition for men and women; a log chopping contest; live hillbilly, gospel and bluegrass music; contests for homemade pies; and a barbeque cookoff contest. Businesses will have the opportunity to set up displays. Trophies and prize money will be awarded to the winners. Profits from this event will be given to charitable organizations as agreed upon by the planning committee. Your attendance is an opportunity to show your support and share your ideas.

CD dance on tap at Jackson Jaycees center

The public is invited to attend a CD dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Jackson Jaycees Community Center, 1820 Old Toll Road, Jackson. There is an admission charge.

March of Dimes sets date for Dance for Babies

The March of Dimes will hold its first Dance for Babies Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Jackson Elks Lodge. Music provided by Classic Choices Sound System will begin at 7 p.m., delivering a good mix of music from the 1980s to current hits, some country and some rock. Fun, food, drawings and prizes will help round out the evening. No admission is required, but donations will be accepted. St. Joseph holding euchre tournament

A euchre tournament beginning at 7:30 p.m. March 27 at St. Jo-seph's Parish Center in Scott City will also include a meal of chicken noodle soup, chili, snacks and drinks beginning at 6 p.m. Attendance prizes will be given.
