Downtown merchants plan silent, live auction
The Downtown Merchants Association Auction will be held Feb. 23 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 318 S. Spanish, in downtown Cape Girardeau.
A silent auction will be held from 6 to 8 p. m. with the live auction at 8 p.m.
This year's theme is the New Orleans-style Mardi Gras, with lots of beads, masks and king cakes.

Marine Corp League meeting scheduled
The Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment of the Marine Corp League will meet Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girareau.

River Walkers take a look at the Mississippi
Old Town Cape River Walkers will be taking a look at the Mississippi River Saturday.
Starting at Grace's Cafe in downtown Cape Girardeau at 10 a.m., the group will make its "River Ramblearound," which will provide multiple views of the Mississippi.
The following Saturday, the group will make its Elizabeth Ann Oliver Promenade.
The walks are conducted each Saturday morning at 10 a.m., rain or shine, through March. The group will then switch to the spring schedule, which is walking at 6 p.m. each Thursday.
The first spring walk will be April 4 and titled, "Spring in Your Step Stomparound."
ACTE Week marked at career center in Cape
The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri and Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce hosted an open house breakfast buffet at the career center this week for workers and business associates.
This is Association for Career and Technical Education Week.
Rotary Pancake Day will be at church
The Jackson Rotary Club will hold its 53rd annual Pancake Day Feb. 26 in the New McKendree United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 209 S. High St., from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available from any club member or at the door. Cost is $3.50 for adults and $1.75 for children under 12.
Tilsit 4-H to hold chili, soup dinner
The Tilsit 4-H Club will host a chili/chicken noodle soup dinner March 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 496 Highway F in Jackson.
Proceeds from the dinner will be used to benefit various projects of the Jackson American Legion Post.
This is a community project for the 4-H Club, said Dorothy Gholson, chairperson of the dinner committee.
Perkins pancake breakfast scheduled
The Perkins Volunteer Fire Department will host its 18th annual whole hog sausage and pancake breakfast Feb. 23.
Serving will be from 6 to 11 a.m. Cost for adults is $4, ages 6-12, $3, and children under 6 eat free. The breakfast is all-you-can-eat. A 25-inch color television will be given away.
Anger question to be answered
The Rev. Barry Pfanstiehl will discuss the topic "Is Anger OK?" Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at Conference Room B of St. Francis Medical Center.
The program is sponsored by the Depressive/Manic Depressive Association of Southeast Missouri.
'Price is Right' features former resident
A former Cape Girardeau resident will appear on the television quiz show "The Price is Right" today at 10 a.m.
Emily Vann-McBride, a 1989 graduate of Central High School, is now a nurse in Orange County, Calif. She was a winner on the show.
Vann-McBride is a niece of Martha Wilson of Cape Girardeau.
