The Sigma Nu Coins for Kids Foundation at Southeast Missouri State University has donated $726.40 to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society to support the "Born to Read" project. The initiative provides a new Golden Book for every baby born at Southeast Missouri Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center.

Women's business group to meet at 7 tonight

The Business Women's Professional organization for Cape Girardeau will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn. Gil Degenhardt will speak about the new changes in Social Security.

Senior groups in Illinois change meeting times

The Olive Branch, Ill., and Thebes, Ill., senior citizen groups have changed their regular meeting times for the week.

The Olive Branch group will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Olive Branch community building. The Thebes senior citizen group will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Thebes city hall.

Both groups will meet at the same time Nov. 15.

Cape Girardeau Public Library sets events

Nov. 19: 7 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Room, the Poetry Coffee House will hold a "Once in a Blue Moon" event. Think "moony" things for this fall evening. Original poetry and readings from favorite poets are welcome. The event is free and open to the public.

Nov. 29: 7 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Room, meeting of the Book Discussion Group. The group will discuss "I Was Amelia Earhart" by Jane Mendelsohn.

Nov. 15, 29, and Dec. 13: 2 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Room, the Great Books series of discussions will meet. "Lewis and Clark Among the Indians" by James Ronda is the Great Books title for Nov. 15. Dr. Carol Morrow of Southeast Missouri State University will lead the discussion. Efforts are being made for a telephone conference call with the author.
