Altenburg, Mo. -- The Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum, under the direction of the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society, will be celebrate its third annual "Luther's Walk in the Woods" event. The museum will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Jan. 15. New galleries at the museum will display more than 30 themed Christmas trees. Buses are welcome. Meet at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Wescoat Shelter in Trail of Tears State Park for a commemorative walk and silent moment of reflection along a section of the Trail of Tears to the Bushyhead Memorial. The Southeast Missouri Music Academy is holding a book fair from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble to help with scholarship funds and equipment purchases. Sales of any item in the store are eligible for the rebate. Simply mention the music academy at the time of purchase, or visit www.semomusicacademy.org and print out a voucher to present to the cashier. Students and faculty will perform throughout the store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dr. Carol McDowell will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. to sign her book, "The History of the Jackson Band Program," and students from Kathy Smith's First Year Seminar will display their artist books.
Throughout December, the Cape Girardeau Public Library will collect food in lieu of fines. Canned and dried foods will be accepted for overdue fines and donated to the FISH food pantry for distribution. The food value is 50 cents per item. Food may not be used to pay for replacement of lost items or any other library fees. Patrons who do not owe fines are also welcome to contribute. No expired or damaged food will be accepted.
