Scouting for Food bags to be collected Saturday

On Saturday, the local Boy Scouts Scouting for Food campaign, in its 23rd year, will collect the bags it distributed last week. Leave full bags out on the doorstep so they may be collected and donations can be distributed to local food pantries.

CASA benefit to be held at Barnes & Noble

From 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, a percentage of Barnes & Noble sales will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates, a not-for-profit group for abused and neglected children in Southeast Missouri. For more information, visit www.capecasa.com or call Revonda Kirby at 335-1726.

Civil War Roundtable will meet Sunday

The Cape Civil War Roundtable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Divorce, death support group meets Nov. 23

A divorce and death support group will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 23 at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. The event, sponsored by Parents Without Partners, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 243-2287.

Christmas contra dance set for Dec. 8

A contra dance will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. A party will follow the dance. January date set for St. Louis Blues trip

The eighth annual St. Louis Blues trip will leave from the Osage Community Centre at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 for a 1 p.m. game against the Nashville Predators. Ticket includes chartered bus transportation and complimentary food and beverages. Tickets may be purchased from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. For more information, call 335-5421.

Lamplighters donate to horsemanship group

The Lamplighters FCE group recently made a $500 donation to Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship. Operating funds of the group, which enables people with disabilities to gain new skills and strengthen little used muscles through horsemanship, are mostly by donation. Golf gift idea being used to fight cancer

Golf courses throughout Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas have teamed with the American Cancer Society to help raise money to fight cancer with a golf pass that provides golfers more than 857 rounds of golf at 322 courses. For a $35 contribution, the American Cancer Society Golf Pass enables golfers to enjoy many different courses throughout the five states in the High Plains Division. The pass expires Dec. 31, 2008, and may be ordered by calling 800-227-2345, or by visiting golfpass4cancer.org.

Hundreds attend Nature Center's Scoutin' Around

Four hundred and thirty area Boy and Girl Scouts and their leaders participated in hiking, tree and plant identification, knot tying, orienteering, archery, seed planting, making leaf rubbings and career exploration recently at the Nature Center's Scoutin' Around event. Scouts came from Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Perryville, Mo., Sikeston, Mo., and Anna, Ill. The event is held twice yearly.
