The Thomas W. Kelly school district's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization is sponsoring a luncheon and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 Thursday at the front lobby of the Scott County Courthouse in Benton, Mo. Homemade chicken noodle soup with rolls, chicken salad sandwiches and assorted baked goods will be available. Proceeds will help members attend state and national leadership meetings.
The Scott City Women's Club will hold its annual fall benefit auction at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Scott City Elementary cafeteria, in the old elementary gym. The auction provides funds to buy clothing and miscellaneous items for needy children and their families in the community.
Haunted Inn benefits Portageville fire dept.
The Haunted Inn will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26; 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 27; 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 28 to 30. Oct. 31 is kid's night from 5 to 7 p.m. and trick or treat night from 7 p.m. to midnight with free admission (donations greatly appreciated). The Run Around Town race is set for 8 a.m. Oct. 27 in Cape Girardeau. The race will begin at the Red Star Baptist Church, where two-member teams will receive a map of downtown Cape Girardeau to help them arrive at sites designated by clues in this physical and mental challenge. At each site, teams must complete the challenge and then pick up a new clue for the next destination. First, second and third prizes in the form of restaurant gift cards will be awarded. Participants will be sent out in pairs, with each team starting a minute apart with a clue to the first destination. Teams will start in the order in which they register. To register, call the Wellness Center at 986-4406. Entry forms are available at HealthPoint Fitness centers in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, and at various downtown stores. The lineup for the Scott City Park Department's Halloween parade will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at Bob's Foodliner Parking Lot. The parade will start at 3 p.m. for a march to the park where judging will be on the stage. Kid's karaoke will follow. At 5 p.m. a middle school scavenger hunt, hillbilly golf and an adult washer contest will begin. Concessions and hayrides will be available. Open mic and dance begins at 6 p.m. Call the park office at 573-264-2322 to enter a float.
