Southeast Spooktacular to be at Show Me Center

The 19th annual Halloween Southeast Spooktacular will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Show Me Center. Participants will be able to sample food and beverages from 40 area restaurants and vendors, and enjoy entertainment by Midlife Crisis. Advance tickets are discounted and can be purchased at www.southeastmissourihospital.com or by calling 334-9254. Halloween costumes or casual dress are acceptable. No one younger than 21 will be admitted.

Halloween event offered by Central students

A "Halloween Fun Night" will be held for young children from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at Central High School. Several clubs will decorate different rooms and have treats for the children. Admission is free.

Music and dance group to hold contra dance

The Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a contra dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. All moves will be taught and the dances walked through. Everyone is welcome and no partner, costume or experience is necessary. Live music will be furnished by Banjovi. Veterans' benefit fairto be held at Post 3838

The VFW Department of Missouri Veterans Service Information Officer will hold a veterans' benefit fair beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 3 at VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. Information on health-care benefits, screenings, legal assistance, educational opportunities, veterans benefits, financial counseling and small business help will be available for veterans, spouses and dependents. Free sex-ed teaching workshop on Nov. 9

A free sex-ed teaching workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella Drive in Sikeston, Mo. Registration is required by Nov. 1. Call Mary Engram at 573-683-6129.

Digital photography class planned at library

Riverside Regional Library at Jackson will hold a digital photography class for ages 12 and older at the library at 7 p.m. Nov. 5. Topics will include how to choose and use a digital camera and how to print pictures. There will be a time for questions. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and is free. Pre-register by calling the library circulation desk at 243-8141. Walk-ins accepted as space allows. Attendees may bring cameras.

Center to hold antique and collectible show

Dealers can sign up and reserve a space for the fall semi-annual antique and collectibles show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Arena Building by calling Larry Essner, Community Counseling Center Foundation executive director, at 334-1100, extension 219. A pre-show sale, with higher admission price, will be from 8 to 9 a.m. that day. The foundation will use the proceeds of this event to improve facilities, equipment and services for those with mental illness.

Women's self-defense and safety program planned

The Cape County Women's Connection evening program will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 12 at Chinatown Buffet, 213 S. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau. There is a charge for the program on women's safety and self-defense. The guest speaker is Pam Havens of St. Peters, Mo. The topic is "Arranging your Priorities."
