Coalition holding peace rally Friday
A Southeast Missouri Coalition for Peace and Justice peace rally will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Freedom Corner in Capaha Park.
Bazaar to be held at Emanuel United Church
Emanuel United Church of Christ will hold a bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Crafts, baked items, cookbooks and dish cloths will be featured. Full breakfast and soup and chili will be served until 11 a.m. A chicken and dumpling lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Benton get-together, campfire set for Sunday
A community get-together and campfire will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Benton Ball Park. Free food, music, a visit by the fire department, music and arts and crafts will be part of this first-time event. For more information, call 573-545-4302.
Filer family and friends to meet for reunion
The Filer family and friends reunion will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson.
Cherokee picnic scheduled for Oct. 27
A Cherokee picnic not sponsored by any group will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at Trail of Tears State Park at the shelter on Greensferry Road near the Otahki Memorial. The picnic, which is open to the public, will continue until the food runs out. Bring a covered dish to share for lunch. There will be storytelling and other activities. Bikers raise $6,078 for veterans
A recent Bikers Helping Bikers fall poker run raised $6,078 for the Cape Girardeau Veterans Home Foundation. The group has raised $40,784 since 2000. Tom McGowan and Cheri Parsons of T&C Motorcycle Parts and Jerry Simpkins spearhead the events.
Civil War Roundtable meets Sunday
The Cape Civil War Roundtable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Club president Dub Suedekum will speak on Claiborne Fox Jackson, Missouri's governor in 1861, then governor-in-exile for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Plans for the Christmas party and an election of officers are on the agenda.
