Girl Scouts participate in Make A Difference Day

Girl Scout troops, families and members of the community are urged to participate in Make A Difference Day, a national day to help others, set for Oct. 26.

With United States military personnel stationed in distant countries, far from family and friends, and the holiday season so close on the heels of Make A Difference Day, the Girl Scouts of Otahki Council has decided to make a difference by collecting long-distance phone cards to be sent to military personnel.

In honor of the 90th anniversary of Girl Scouting, the goal of the Otahki council is to collect 90,000 minutes of long-distance phone time.

A collection box is on display at the Girl Scout Service Center, where a tally of the minutes collected will also be posted. Bring, mail or send phone cards to the center by Oct. 25. Donors may include cards and messages for military personnel.

The Girl Scout Service Center is located at 1432 Kurre Lane, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701. Phone cards and messages will be shipped to military personnel in cooperation with the American Red Cross.

For more information, contact the council at 334-7741.
