Cape library's card sign-up held this month
The Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark St., invites potential patrons to sign up for a library card during September, Library Card Sign-Up Month. The card is free. Also this month, the Great Books 2005 series co-sponsored by the Center for Regional History and the library will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Hirsch Community Room. September's title is "The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century" by Thomas L. Friedman. Books may be purchased at local booksellers.
Haydn Fox of Cape Girardeau was recently published in the national magazine "Good Old Days." Fox is a freelance writer. His story titled "The Trickster Tricker" will be published in the magazine's October issue.
The Bank of Missouri, 3247 William St., Cape Girardeau, will present a 55 Alive safety driving class. The course, given in two separate sessions over a two-day period, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at the bank. Attendance for both days is required for a certificate of completion. The Central High School Class of 1945 has scheduled its 60th reunion for Sept. 16 to 17 at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. A picnic lunch will be held Sept. 17 at County Park shelter 22. The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the USDA Office on Highway 77 in Benton. A presentation on chiropractic methods will be made by a Sikeston chiropractor. All women are invited to attend. For more information, contact Kay Dover at the USDA Center at 545-9027.
