Junior high students invited to dance

Students in grades six to eight are welcome at a back to school dance Friday at the Jackson Jaycee Hall across from Pioneer Orchard. There is an admission and concessions are available for an additional charge. Chaperoned and sponsored by the parents of Classic United Soccer Club, music will be provided by Lucas Beine and Swingtown Sounds.

Horse show benefits children with diabetes

This year's Midwest Regional Futurity and Heartland Jubilee Horse Show, one of just a few of its kind in North America, will open at 1 p.m. Saturday with an evening show beginning at 6 p.m. at Flickerwood Arena near Jackson. Proceeds benefit the Diabetes Youth Fund at Southeast Missouri Hospital.Tickets are available at the door. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Humane Society offering music, pet adoptions

Enjoy a free concert from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Capaha Park Band Shell while checking out pets available for adoption from the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri and several local breed rescues. The event commemorates National Homeless Animals Day. Performances will feature Fara McSpadden, Tony Bertram, Lincoln Barr and Jeremy Verhines.

Civil War Round Table to meet Sunday

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship room of Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau. The speaker will be Dan Rothwell, member of the St. Louis Civil War Round Table, who will present a program on "St. Louis Fort Jackson and the Civil War History of St. Charles." The Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., Cape Giradeau, will be serving Meals With Friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Aug. 27. Any individual is welcome to enjoy a hot, nutritious meal at no cost. Monday's menu includes tuna noodle casserole, peas, pears, bread and butter, cake or pie; Tuesday: hot dogs with bun, pork and beans, peaches, cake or pie; Wednesday: nacho grande with hamburger, lettuce, tomatoes, refried beans, jello with fruit, cake or pie; Thursday: ham and beans, beef and vegetable soup, crackers, pears, corn bread and butter, cake or pie; Friday: turkey salad sandwiches, potato chips, fruit, cake or pie.

Fruitland alums get together at Delmonico's

SADI to hold 'Barrier Freedom' banquet
