Dr. Sam Duncan and Angie Wilson have been named development officers at Southeast Missouri State University. Duncan, of Jackson, was formerly the director of state and federal programs in the Jackson School District. Wilson, of Kelso, Mo., was formerly community relations manager with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Dr. Ron Anderson, superintendent of the Jackson School District, said Duncan's former duties will be divided among existing staff. A replacement search will likely not begin until next year, he said, because top administrators have positions set for the coming school year. Development officers work in the office of University Advancement and are responsible for soliciting donors and establishing relationships with alumni.

Jackson School Board approves bus routes

The Jackson School Board approved bus routes for the upcoming school year and set the date for a tax rate hearing at a regular meeting Tuesday. The tax rate hearing, set for Aug. 26, is a yearly event, said Dr. Ron Anderson. The tax levy, set at $3.80 per $100 assessed valuation, will not change, he said. Despite fuel costs, bus routes will only change to accommodate new students or homes. One route was added to reduce the time special-needs students are on the bus. Many districts around the country are consolidating routes to reduce costs. Anderson said the district was already running its buses efficiently. Anderson also said the roof on the Events Center should be completed by the end of the week.
