Foundation, restaurant offer Father's Day gift
Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation and The Branding Iron have partnered to offer The Branding Iron's pork ribs as a Father's Day gift and benefit patient care services and programs of Southeast Missouri Hospital at the same time. A donation to the Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation results in a ticket for a side of ribs that can be redeemed at the Jackson Branding Iron or its new location at 1015 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Call the foundation office at 334-9254 to order a side of ribs for Father's Day. Tickets can be redeemed from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 12 to 14.
Norm Stewart to speak Friday at Ray's in Kelso
KELSO, Mo. -- The Mizzou Alumni Association's Black and Gold Chapter will have MU basketball coach Norm Stewart as guest speaker at 6 p.m. Friday at Ray's in Kelso. Cake walk Contra dance set for Saturday night
A free beginner's dance session will be offered from 6:45 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, by the Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance. A contra dance to live music will follow from 7 to 9:30 p.m. All moves are taught and the dances walked through. Live music will be provided by The Old Cornlickers. Second Stars and Stripes special event to be held
BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Stars and Stripes National Military Museum in Bloomfield and area amateur radio clubs will honor America's military and recognize the achievement of supplying soldiers with the Stars and Stripes newspaper for almost 150 years with a special amateur radio station event June 13 and 14. The station will be calling "CQ," the signal alert for amateur radio operators worldwide to call in. Responses will enable callers to learn about the museum, its activities and the newspaper sent to military personnel worldwide. Special certificates for collectors on the museum and its programs will be issued. The museum hopes contact with military personnel around the world will open up communication with locals and make them more aware of the museum's support of troops.
Annual walk/run to help victims of violence
The eighth annual "Going the Distance for Victims of Violence" 5K walk/run will be at 7:30 a.m. June 21 at the corner of Broadway and Lorimier Street. Stride and Ride to be held at County Park
The MDA/Alliance Rehab Stride and Ride will begin with 9 a.m. registration June 21 at Cape County Park South pavilion No. 20. The walk will begin at 10 a.m., a silent auction will be at 11, and a fish fry will be at noon. There will be music, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, a petting zoo and more. Pageants set for East Prairie Sweetcorn festival
EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- The 2008 Junior Miss and Miss Sweetcorn Pageants, open to 13- to 18-year-old girls from all communities, will be at 6:30 p.m. June 26 in the East Prairie High School auditorium.
