June youth programs continue at Cape library

The Cape Girardeau Public Library has a number of programs and activities available throughout June, including:

  • 10 a.m. today: Toddler time will feature stories, fingerplays and songs for ages 18 to 35 months.
  • 10 a.m. Tuesday: Storytime will feature stories, fingerplays, songs and a take-home activity for children ages 3 to 5. At 11 a.m. the Lunch Bag Bunch will be held for children ages 6 to 8.
  • 10 a.m. Thursday: The Early Explorers, ages 18 to 35 months, will learn about bugs. At 1 p.m. Kids Can I, for ages 6 to 8, will make and tell a story about a greedy mosquito. Registration is required. To register or for more information, call 334-5279 or visit capelibrary.org/default.aspx.
  • 6 to 9 p.m. Friday: Game On after hours will be held for ages 13 to 18. Use of PlayStation 3, Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution available. A cover charge will enable the group to get snacks.

Nature Center scheduled hikes, walks still open

  • Scenic sections of the Ozark Trail on the St. Francois Mountain will be featured in the Conservation Trails hike from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Meet at the Nature Center to carpool or ride in the van. The lengthy hike, for ages 8 and older, has steep climbs and is rated difficult. From 10 to 11 a.m. the Tadpoles program for children up to 2 years of age will feature a guided nature stroll on Nature Center grounds to look for signs of summer. Registration is required for both activities. To register or for more information, call 290-5218.
  • Conservation Trails will feature Trail of Tears State Park Peewah Trail 10-mile hike from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 5 for spectacular views of the river and Illinois floodplain. The trail is rated very difficult. Meet at the Nature Center to carpool or ride in the van. The hike is open to those age 8 and older. Registration is required. River Heritage Museum has schedule change

The time and date of Steve and Viney Mosley's presentation "Attic Treasures — Little Known Facts, Family Secrets and Treasures Discovered in the Attic," has been changed to 10 a.m. July 12. The program will be in the Cape River Heritage Museum in Cape Girardeau.
