Jackson muny band 's weekly concert set
The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson City Park Bandshell. Special guests include Flood Plain, an acoustic-based vocal duo performing classic rock, pop and country. The bands portion will feature clarinet, selections from "Disney at the Movies," "The Golden Age of Rock and Roll" and marches. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Entrance on Route D.
The 2006 East Prairie Junior Miss, Miss and Senior Miss Sweetcorn Pageants are slated for 7 p.m. June 29 at the East Prairie Hight School Auditorium. The contest, open to girls 13 to 21, invites girls from all communities. Deadline to enter is 8 p.m. Sunday. The University of Missouri Extension is presenting a two-session estate planning workshop series at Cape Girardeau County Extension office in Jackson from 6:30 to 9 p.m. July 10 and 11. The 8th annual Retired Senior Volunteer Program Golf Tournament will be held July 21 at the Cape Jaycees Municipal Golf Course. The event begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The tournament will have two flights with cash prizes for the top two finishers in each. Several attendance prizes will also be given away during the event, and a drawing for four St. Louis Cardinal tickets will be held. The planning committee is accepting company sponsorships until June 26 for the Sept. 30 walk at Capaha Park. Companies may also participate in sponsor booths at the walk. Teams may sign up individually until the walk date. Signups are necessary to participate in the kickoff party from noon to 1 p.m. July 12 at Southeast Missouri Hospital. A celebration and Civil War re-enactment with the 10th Tennessee Dismounted Cavalry will take place at 2 and 9 p.m. July 1; at dusk on July 2 a fireworks display will be held. The recent annual Hyslop family reunion was attended by families from Dexter, Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Advance as well as surrounding areas including Florissant, Wappappello, Bloomfield and St. Louis. Relatives also traveled from Alabama and Georgia to attend the reunion.
