Ill. state police to hold annual golf outing

May 12 is the date for Illinois State Police CARE Bears' fourth annual golf outing at Vienna, Ill. Lunch will be provided from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; tee time is 1 p.m. Beverages will be available on the course. Format is a four-person scramble with four players per team (everyone rides). MoDOT releases free 2007 work zones map

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- To help motorists prepare for work zone season, the Missouri Department of Transportation has released a free 2007 Missouri Highway Work Zones Map that details 160 major construction sites across the state. It is not a complete listing of all MoDOT construction projects, but features descriptions of major projects that may affect traffic across the state this year. Insets of the Kansas City and St. Louis areas offer motorists a more in-depth view of urban roadwork. Up-to-the-minute work zone information can be found on MoDOT's Web site at www.modot.org/workzonemap. Free copies of the 2007 Missouri Highway Work Zones Map are available at tourist information centers, rest areas and at each of the department's 10 district offices. Scott County Women in Agriculture meet

The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the USDA Office on Highway 77 in Benton. Final plans will be made for their annual "Farm Day." All women are invited. There is no need to be involved in farming but those with an interest in gardening, cooking, farming, family activities or helping the community will enjoy meeting the goal of educating others about agriculture and providing an atmosphere of fun, fellowship and support. Scrapbook, quilt event to benefit Relay for Life

An all-day scrapbooking and quilting event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Family Life Center at Anna Heights Baptist Church, 100 Turner Ave., Anna, Ill. A suggested donation will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and includes lunch, snacks throughout the day, hourly "giveaways" and five different demonstrations. Participants should bring their own scrapbooking supplies and projects to work on; demonstrators will be available to assist with new ideas and techniques. During the scrapbooking session, the ladies of Anna Heights will be working on a quilt that will be quilted by the Union County Home Extension Group and awarded to a cancer survivor during the night of Anna's Relay for Life walk. Genealogical society meets in Vienna, Ill.

The Johnson County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Vienna Public Library's community meeting room. The library is on the south side of the public square in Vienna, Ill. Mike Scott, a society member and teacher at Anna-Jonesboro High School, will present with his students the research and findings they have gathered from history research projects they have worked on during the school year. The project is titled "Southern Illinois," and residents in students' communities were interviewed. Students' work and audio and video tapes will be presented to show accomplishments. Topics include one-room schools, the Great Depression and The Kirkpatrick Pottery. Admission is free. For more information, call (618) 995-2068.

Flower bed dedication will be held Sunday

A patriotic flower bed will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Head School in Scott City. The flower bed, complete with flagpole and plaque, was built in honor of the veterans who attended the one-room Head School. The project was funded by the Sunny Village Garden Club, a member of the State Garden Club and the Principal Financial Group.

Caring Council holds breakfast, elections

The Community Caring Council's annual breakfast and elections meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. April 20 at the VFW in Cape Girardeau. There is a cost for the available breakfast buffet. Contact the Community Caring Council office manager, Resa Armstrong, for more information at 651-3747, extension 100.

Clean up Cape's walking trail for Park Day

The Cape Parks and Recreation Department's annual Park Day begins at 8:30 a.m. April 21 at the Osage Community Centre parking lot for direction. Work will continue until Cape LaCroix Creek is clean or the crew is tired. Friends and family are invited to bring back the beauty along the walking trail between Route W and Shawnee Sports Complex. All participants receive a free lunch and T-shirts. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Participants should wear water shoes and clothes to work and get dirty in. Community groups are welcome. Pageant set at Holcomb High School April 21

A pageant to benefit Relay for Life will be held at 10 a.m. April 21 at Holcomb High School auditorium. Six age categories from 0 to age 16 will be offered for girls; two age categories of 0 to 18 months and 19 months to 3 years will be offered for boys. Attire is Sunday best.
