Retirement tea to be held for Tom Allen

Tom Allen, superintendent of the Delta School District for the past nine years, will be honored at a retirement tea from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lowell Jones Building at Delta High School.

Sikeston Area Job Fair scheduled for May 4

A job fair will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. May 4 at the Clinton Community Building, 501 Campanella Drive in Sikeston, Mo. The event is sponsored by the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, Department of Economic Development, Division of Workforce Development and Missouri Employer Committee.

Al-Anon panel discussion to be held May 18

Rivercity Freedom Al-Anon Family Group will hold a panel discussion on problem drinking and its effects on the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 18 at the Imperial building, 1219 N. Kingshighway. The discussion is free to the public and light refreshments will be served.

School's annual auction event raises $65,000

Immaculate Conception's 18th annual Spring Fling Auction had a successful "fund a program" event, raising more than $4,500 for the science program and lab equipment that was destroyed by a tornado in 2003. The Spring Fling Auction is Immaculate Conception School's primary fund-raiser, which includes a sit-down dinner, raffles and auctions. This year 600 people attended the event, which raised $65,000. The 2-year-old "fund a program" event features a specific curriculum annually. For more information on IC Catholic School, call 243-5013.

Cemetery group marks 150th anniversary

The Arnsberg Cemetery Association has a 150th anniversary celebration planned at 2 p.m. May 21 for St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at the Old Arnsberg School Township No. 19. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and spend time reminiscing. The school was built in 1849 and still stands about two and a half miles west of Interstate 55 on Route KK in northern Cape Girardeau County. Speakers at the event include Dr. Bill Eddleman, Cape Girardeau Genealogical Society president and professor of biology at Southeast Missouri State University, and Helenmarie Koenig, a former student at Arnsberg and the last teacher there.
