Community Caring Council to give awards

The Community Caring Council will hold its annual breakfast and business meeting at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau. Guest speakers will include former state Rep. Mary Kasten, founder of the Community Caring Council, and state Rep. Jason Crowell.

The council will present its annual awards during the meeting, including the Kasten Award and Horizon Award.

Antique tractor show scheduled for Saturday

Bud Henry of New Madrid, Mo., is proud of his restored tractor that was used on the family farm in the Higgerson Landing and Donaldson Point areas of New Madrid County.

Henry's 1940 John Deere is among antique tractors that will be on display at the New Madrid Antique Tractor Field Day Show Saturday at the Catholic School grounds.

Henry and Riley Bock are coordinators of the show.

A number of John Deere, Allis-Chalmers, Case and Ford tractors from the 1930s through the 1950s are registered for show. The show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are no fees to exhibit tractors, but collectors and restorers should register in advance by contacting Henry at (573) 748-5999 or Bock at (573) 748-5521.

The show is open to the public, and refreshments will be available on the grounds.

Renaissance Festival Saturday at library

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will celebrate the end of its winter reading program and honor National Library Week with a Renaissance Festival, at the library, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The program will feature games, adventures and food. Prizes will be awarded for most authentic and creative costumes. Information is available by calling 334-5279.

Wildflower weekend planned at Trail of Tears

A spring wildflower weekend will be held Friday evening and Saturday at the Trail of Tears.

Through strolls and programs, people can learn to identify common wildflowers.

An evening stroll is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday, with a 10 a.m. stroll planned Saturday.

Civil War group meets Sunday; Clarkton topic

"Clarkton, Capitol of the Independent State of Dunklin -- A Town with a Past and Promising Future" will be the topic of the Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday. Scott Harrison will be guest speaker.

The session will be held in the Fellowship Room of Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road.

People interested in the Civil War are invited to attend.

LeDure family reunion at Benton Sunday

The LeDure family reunion will be held at the American Legion Hall in Benton, beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, and a covered-dish dinner at noon.

Cape County genealogy group to hold forum

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogy Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson.

Outstanding volunteers to be honored

Outstanding volunteers in the area will be honored at noon April 25 at the Area Wide United Way Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Drury Lodge.

This is the 15th year the Area Wide United Way has recognized outstanding volunteers in the community. More than 30 volunteers were nominated.

Group plans Beltaine Festival and workshop

The Cape Spiritual Discussion Group will hold its Beltaine Festival on May 4 at Cherokee Park in Cape Girardeau.

Following a potluck dinner at 11 a.m., a workshop will be held on the Celtic and modern traditions of Beltaine, and the meaning of this holiday. A Beltaine ritual will follow the workshop. Information is available by calling Tara Miller, 651-0570.

Cape Shrine Club golf tournament May 17

The Cape Shrine Club will sponsor its seventh annual golf tournament May 17 at the Bent Creek Golf Course at Jackson.

Shriners, non-shriners and duffers are eligible for four-person scramble event.

In addition to prizes to the top teams, there will be a hole-in-one prize of a new vehicle. Prizes will also be presented for closest to the pin, closest to the line, longest putt and longest drive. A special prize will also be awarded for a hole-in-one on hole No. 8.

The cost is $65 a person. Tee-time is 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.

Scott City sets dates for Summerfest

Dates have been established for the 28th annual Summerfest celebration at Scott City, Mo.

The two-day extravaganza will be held June 14 and 15 at Scott City Park.

The annual Mid-South talent show will be held Saturday, June 15.
