Fund-raiser for social welfare today at SEMO
A fund-raiser for the student chapter of the Missouri Association for Social Welfare will be held at 1 p.m. today at Academic Terraces, near the corner of Normal Ave. and Pacific Street on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. The musical act Wooden Ships will be featured. Event is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated and will benefit MASW activities to promote social welfare. An indoor youth rodeo will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at J&M Quarter Horses, 1.2 miles off Highway 127 in Alto Pass, Ill. Sign-in will be at 9 a.m. for any youth 20 years old or younger. The Scott County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Scott County Courthouse in Benton. Guest speaker will be Larry Dowdy, director of the Little River Drainage District. The district's development from formation to the present will be the program. Everyone is invited. Quilters from Cape Girardeau and surrounding areas are being recruited to show their quilts in the Dogwood Azalea Quilt Show April 20 to 23 at the Charleston United Methodist Church. Kindergarten registration times will be from 8 to 11 a.m., noon to 3:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the lobby of Scott City Elementary School. It is not necessary to bring your child. The custodial parent must have a photo ID and supply proof of residency, birth certificate (child must be 5 years old before Aug. 1), immunization records and Social Security card for the child. The child will be given a screening appointment time for April 27 or 28. Children must be registered at this time to assure screening before school in the fall. Summer school will be provided for the 2006-2007 kindergarten students. Enrollment forms are available at screening.
Registration for the fundraiser for Aaron Davis, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 23 at Kozy Korner in Olive Branch, Ill. First bike will leave at 1 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the cause. For more information call (618) 776-5221.
At 8 a.m. April 29, the annual Jackson Park Day will be held at shelter No. 1 on Parkview Street in Jackson City Park. All participants will be offered a T-shirt and lunch will be served at 11 a.m. for no cost. Individuals and service groups are welcome to help clean up and beautify the park.
