Eagle Scout Court of Honor set for Saturday
The Eagle Scout Court of Honor will recognize 92 Scouts from Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri who earned the rank in 2005 at Southeast Missouri State University Academic Hall at 2 p.m. Saturday. The sponsor for this class is state Rep. Lanie G. Black III. Joseph Russell of Cape Girardeau is the chairman of the Court of Honor.
Members of Jackson High School classes up to and including 1957 are invited to attend a meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church, 206 E. Washington St., Jackson. The meeting's purpose is to organize chairmen and committees to plan the reunion. JHS reunions have been held every three years. The last reunion was hosted by classes of 1946, 1947 and 1948.
Bethel 60 Job's Daughters of Jackson and Excelsior Chapter DeMolay invite boys ages 12 to 18 and girls ages 10 to 18 to a prospect party with cosmic bowling at Main Street Lanes in Jackson from 9 to 11 p.m. Feb. 17. Children ages 8 to 12 may come in costume for the Harry Potter Party to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 18 at Dearmont Hall cooking lab on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. To celebrate the latest book the group will be making Hogwart's Trifle, Hagrid's Rock Cakes, Cockroach Clusters, Harry's Acid Pops and Butter Beer. Dumbledore may pay a visit. Children who will turn 5 no later than Aug. 1 are eligible to start kindergarten for the fall 2006 to 2007 semester at St. Mary Cathedral School. An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at St. Mary's school cafeteria. The meeting will include discussion on the school, its philosophy, program and uniforms. Anyone unable to attend the meeting but would like information can call principal Carol Strattman at 335-3840.
Open to all local first responder agencies and Community Emergency Response Team members, a presentation by John Miller, Union Pacific railroad, will be made from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 7 at Scott County EMA Training Center (former 911 Building), 22842 U.S. 61, Oran. The topic is "Railway Hazards and Disaster Planning." Those planning on attending should contact Scott County EMA at 545-9113. Class size is limited, so call early.
