New Year's Eve gala on tap at Arena Building

The Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation will hold a New Year's Eve gala from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. "An Evening of Elegance" will feature music by Midlife Crisis, along with special hors d'oeuvres and party favors, a cash bar and a champagne toast at midnight. Dress is black tie or business attire. Proceeds will benefit the Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences. For information or tickets, call 334-9254.

Republican women welcome new state rep

The Cape Girardeau County Republican Women will hold a regular monthly meeting at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 7 at Dexter Bar-B-Q in Cape Girardeau. The guest speaker will be state representative-elect Nathan Cooper. For more information contact Cindie Jeter Yanow at 651-2485. Variety show will benefit toddler with rare disease

Grayson Beardslee of Oran is a 2-year-old suffering from xeroderma pigmentosum, an extreme sensitivity to the sun's ultraviolet rays. Exposure to the sun may cause skin cancer, hearing loss, eye cancer, damage to the corneas and loss of motor skills. A benefit for the toddler will be held at the New Hamburg Parish Center on Jan. 22. The event will include a variety show, food court and silent auction. Cape County AARP to meet Monday

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at noon Monday at Saxony Village for lunch and a business meeting.
