Christmas basket applications accepted

The Salvation Army kettle workers will start ringing bells Nov. 14 at various Cape Girardeau and Jackson locations, working on the $250,000 goal used for the operation of the Salvation Army. Last year the Salvation Army assisted more than 1,000 families with Christmas toys and food. Christmas Basket applications began Tuesday and continue through Nov. 23. Those interested should bring a picture identification card for the individual signing up, Social Security cards for other individuals in the household, proof of address and income from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. to the 701 Good Hope St., Cape Girardeau location to sign up for Christmas basket or toy programs. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer to ring bells, call 335-7000.

Women in agriculture bring show-and-tell items

The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7 p.m. today at the USDA office on Highway 77 in Benton, Mo. Members and guests are encouraged to bring an item for show and tell. Women who share an interest in gardening, cooking, farming, family activities and helping the community are encouraged to attend. Republican Women's Club welcomes guest speaker

Jack Oliver III will return to speak at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Cape Girardeau County Republican Women's Club meeting held at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau. The meeting is open to the public. Oliver has worked as an adviser and strategist for Bush-Cheney '04, Bush for President and Sens. John Ashcroft, Kit Bond, John Danforth and Jim Talent. He most recently served as national finance vice chairman for Bush-Cheney '04 and Victory 2004. Currently he is chairman of Bryan Cave Strategies LLC, a government relations subsidiary of Bryan Cave LLP with headquarters in Missouri and Washington, D.C.

Eagle Ridge Christian School dinner auction set

The Eagle Ridge Christian School dinner auction, themed "Home on the Range," will be held Friday. Dinner is at 6 p.m.; auction at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public. Tickets for children 3 and under are free. Menu includes pulled-pork barbecue sandwiches, sides, drinks and desserts. Silent and live auctions take place all evening. Auction items include a one-day catfishing excursion, a wedding dress from Andrew Jackson Bridal, a signed door and side panel from an official Monster Truck, Branson and St. Louis get-aways. A raffle for a shopping spree to Crosnoe Gold & Silver are being sold at the school office and Crosnoe Gold and Silver. Winner need not be present.

PTO annual chili supper, fall carnival scheduled

Nell Holcomb School's annual PTO chili supper and fall carnival will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Cape Girardeau Eagles will meet to hold vote

The Cape Girardeau Eagles Auxiliary 3775 will meet to vote bylaw changes at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 321 N. Spring St.

Grandparents support group to meet Nov. 9

The next monthly grandparents meeting, set for 10 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, will have a program on spirituality presented by the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Office in Jackson. The location is 684 W. Jackson Trail. Local sponsors include AARP and Kinship Care Committee of Southeast Missouri.
