AARP 4041 to meet today at Grace UMC
The Cape Girardeau County chapter of AARP 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers Avenue. The program will be a candidates forum. A door prize drawing will be held.
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Delta Gardeners Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Clara Drinkwater Newnam Library, 105 E. Marshall. Interested gardeners from Scott, Mississippi and Stoddard counties are welcome. Meetings are the first Monday of the month at various locations.
The Jackson FCCLA is seeking gowns for resale from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Oct. 11 and 12, and from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 13. Gowns should be brought to the Music/Ag Building, Room B2, Jackson High School. Dress owners can decide the gown's price. A nominal handling fee will be collected. Gowns will be sold from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at the old gymnasium at JHS. Ten percent of the gown's resale will be donated to Relay For Life. The remainder will benefit the seller. Booths for businesses will also be available. Gown and money pick up is noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 15. Gowns not picked up will be donated to charity. For more information, call 243-9517.
A memorial benefit dinner, dance and auction will be held Oct. 21 at the Jackson Elks Lodge, lower level, to honor the life of Aaron McKinney and help pay the remainder of his funeral and medical expenses. Because McKinney was a Woodland Hills sports-minded student, the Bollinger County Youth Soccer League is establishing a memorial scholarship fund in his name to assist families experiencing economic hardships with children wishing to play soccer. An annual college scholarship is also being established but details have not yet been determined. McKinney's family is sponsoring the event, which will include a silent auction and raffle items with chances for St. Louis Rams tickets and a four-wheeler. The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the USDA Office, Highway 77, Benton, Mo. The Scott City FBLA Chapter recently received a $500 donation from Wal-Mart to fund activities and community service projects including the Summer Executive Leadership Conference, Installation, Camp Quality Relay, Thanksgiving Dinner for Senior Citizens, Career Shadow Day, Career Day for the Middle School, National Fall Leadership Conference, Pictures with Santa, District Competition, State Competition and National Leadership Conference.
