Jackson businesses get spotlight in showcase

The Jackson Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business Showcase from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson High School gymnasium to promote services and products to the public. A school reunion will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rum Branch, next to the old school building. Bring old pictures or any history you have of the school, lawn chairs, drinks and cameras. Cape Girardeau library announces events

During October the library will host a Lewis and Clark traveling exhibit from the Missouri Historical Society.

The library's Sunday hours, from 1 to 5 p.m., will resume Sunday and continue through the month of April.

The first meeting of the great books series will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Hirsch Room. The book's title is "Facing East from Indian Country: A Native History of Early America" by Daniel Richter.

Klaus family reunion set for noon Sunday

A noon potluck basket dinner will be held Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Parish Hall in Friedheim, Mo. Attendees are requested to bring their own place settings. The reunion is for all descendants of Caspar Heinrich Klaus. This year marks the 160th anniversary of his coming from Germany to the United States in 1843. Republican Women's Club to meet Friday

The Cape Girardeau County Republican Women's Club will be holding its regular monthly meeting beginning with lunch at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Grecian Steak House in Cape Girardeau. The guest speaker will be President Pro Tem of the Missouri Senate, Peter Kinder.
