This week's events at the Cape public library

Today: From 10 to 10:30 a.m. the "Toddler Time" program for 18-month-old to 2-year-old children will feature Storyteller Favorites; from 7 to 8 p.m. the "Cool Reads" program, for fourth through sixth grades, will feature Mark Twain Award nominees and ice cream.

Tuesday: From 10 to 10:30 a.m., story time for 3- to 5-year-olds will feature Storyteller Favorites. From 2 to 4 p.m. the "Tuesday for Teens" program will film the teen movie.

Wednesday: From 10 to 10:30 a.m., story time for 3- to 5-year-olds will feature Storyteller Favorites; at 11:30 a.m., the Lunch Bag Bunch, for first through third grades, will feature a picnic, story and activity; at 1 p.m. "On Stage @ The Library," for first through third grades, will learn puppeteering; at 2 p.m. "Live @ The Library," for fourth through sixth grades, will learn acting.

Sam's Club to hold back-to-school breakfast

Sam's Club invites all teachers and day-care staff to a back-to-school breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 2. Membership is not required to attend. Those who attend will receive a complementary gift bag.

Jackson schools get grant for microfilm

Secretary of State Matt Blunt announced that the Jackson School District has received a local records grant of $19,769 from the Local Records Preservation Program administered by his office.

The district will use the grant to buy a microfilm machine that will free up to 98 percent of its storage space for other uses, a consultant to help implement the new records preservation process and various equipment to enhance records preservation.

Logs needed for library reading programs

Book logs for the summer reading program at Riverside Regional Library need to be in by Wednesday. Incentive packets can be picked up at the circulation desk on Aug. 11. Story time will begin in October and continue to December. For more information, call 243-8141.

Homecoming for McClure schools set for Saturday

Bucky Jacobs and Leslie Hooker invited former classmates of McClure, Ill., schools to a reunion 26 years ago. It has become an annual event and is slated for 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at McClure Elementary School. Refreshments will be available.

Registration for the dinner will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at The Purple Crackle in East Cape Girardeau, Ill. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.

The class of 1953, the first class to graduate from Shawnee High School, and classes of 1933 and 1943 will be recognized. For more information, call 334-0363 or (618) 661-1500.

St. Ann's Sodality holding blood drive next week

The St. Ann's Sodality blood drive will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Fellowship Room of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson. Soup/crackers will be provided for donors.
