Riverside library's reading club meets July 15
The summer reading club at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson will have a program called "Silly Eats" at 9:30 a.m. July 15. Children will be read silly stories.
Area parents group meeting this week
Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons at Circle S Saddle from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The group will have an orientation for new members at Dairy Queen, near Schnucks in Cape Girardeau, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The meeting is open to the public. Call 335-0797 for more information.
Events this week at Cape Girardeau Public Library
Toddler time is from 10 to 10:30 a.m. today. This program is for 18-month-olds to 2-year-olds with a caregiver. Cats is the theme.
The program "Cool Reads" is from 7 to 8 p.m. today and is for fourth through sixth grades. The program features Mark Twain Award nominees and ice cream. Call 334-5279 to register.
Story time for ages 3 to 5 will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Cats is the theme. Tuesday 4 Teens is from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The program is for seventh through 12th grades.
Story time for ages 3 to 5 will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Lunch Bag Bunch, for first through third grades, will be at 11:30 a.m. Children in grades one to three will learn the basics of puppeteering at "On Stage @ the Library" at 1 p.m. Children in fourth through sixth grades will learn the basics of acting at "Live at the Library" at 2 p.m.
New Hamburg picnic to be held next week
The New Hamburg annual picnic will be held from 5 to 11:30 p.m. July 18 and from 3 to 11:30 p.m. July 19.
Entertainment on July 18 includes music and karaoke by Hotrod Entertainment.
A talent show will be held at 3 p.m. July 19, in both junior and senior divisions. The senior division winner will advance to the MidSouth Fair in Memphis, Tenn. Call (573) 545-3317 for an entry form; deadline is July 14. There is a fee.
A smorgasbord dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. July 19. The menu includes fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, roast beef and gravy with all the trimmings.
Turtle races will be at 6 p.m., followed by a kid's tractor pull at 7 p.m. Entertainment on July 19 includes music and karaoke by Renegade Sound System.
Food, beverages, games and a mechanical bull ride will also be available.
