Upcoming events at Cape Girardeau library

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will hold "Laugh It Up @ Your Library" on July 1.

The Adult Summer Reading Program continues through Aug. 1. There's still time to register.

The library will be closed in observance of Independence Day on July 4.

The Poetry Coffeehouse will be at 7 p.m. July 21. Readers and listeners welcome. The theme for July is "Liberty."

Jackson High School reunion set for Aug. 15

Freedom Day to be held at bookstore in July

Gospeland Bookstore will hold Freedom Day at 10:30 a.m. July 5 at to honor all who have served and are serving their community and country. Those to be recognized are not limited to those in the military.

Agency sponsoring free lunches for children

The East Missouri Action Agency is sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program, which began June 11 and will end Aug. 8.

This program, funded by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, will provide free lunches to those under age 18 at nine locations in Cape Girardeau. Adults may purchase a meal for a nominal charge.

Sites are:

Central High School: Lunch will be served at 11:40 a.m. today through July 3.

Central Junior High School: Lunch will be served at 11:35 a.m. today through June 27.

Central Middle School: Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. today through June 27.

Franklin Elementary School: Lunch will be served at 10:50 a.m. today through June 27.

Cape Girardeau Alternative School: Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. through June 24.

Salvation Army's Summer Program: Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. today through July 25.

Family Resource Center's Summer Program: Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. today through Aug. 8.

Cape Girardeau Boys and Girls Club Summer Program: Lunch will be served at noon June 23 through Aug. 8.

Washington Park Summer Food Program: Lunch will be served at noon through Aug. 8.
