JONESBORO, Ill. -- Only one county race is on the Union County election ballot Nov. 3: Everett L. Ury faces Relis Oliver for county commissioner.
One of the biggest races in the county was settled in the primary when Jim Nash, a 23-year deputy sheriff, defeated a former sheriff, Larry Tripp. The current sheriff, Harlan Coffman, did not file for re-election, and Nash has no opposition Nov. 3.
Ury of Anna had to defeat four candidates in the Democratic commissioner's primary earlier this year and will face Oliver, who won over two other candidates in the Republican primary, including an incumbent .
Ury is owner of the Everett Ury Ditching and Road Boring Co.
Oliver is a retired teacher and principal. He worked in the Anna Grade School system 23 years.
Oliver serves as gifted-program coordinator for Anna elementary schools and is a part-time instructor at Shawnee College.
Other unopposed county candidates are County Clerk Bobby Toler Jr. and County Treasurer Bobby G. Myers.
