JACKSON -- Cape Girardeau County's Road and Bridge levy will be a penny higher when residents get their tax bills this fall.
The county commission set the levy at 23 cents per $100 assessed valuation Thursday. The levy was set at 22 cents last year.
Only two reporters attended a public hearing on the tax rate.
The Road and Bridge levy will be imposed on $211,393,043 in assessed valuation in the county and is budgeted to produce $486,204 in revenue.
The county has not imposed a general revenue levy since a countywide sales tax went into effect in 1982.
The county's total assessed valuation for the current year is $572,114,043.
