A committee has been formed by the Youth Education Literacy and Learning committee and the United Way, to distribute half of the funds raised during the YELL promotion earlier this month.

The money is equally divided between the United Way for Literacy grands and the Southeast Missourian Newspapers in Education Program, which delivers about 7,000 newspapers to area schools each week.

Agencies and organizations providing programs for youth with an emphasis on literacy, who are interested in applying should submit an application to the YELL Allocations Committee, Post Office Box 562, Cape Girardeau, 63702. Applications must be received by Oct. 29.

Information should include a brief general description of the program, the target audience and age, program objectives and the total cost of the program, along with a cost breakdown.

Programs my be new or expansions of existing programs.
