Walter Williams, a nationally known economist and syndicated columnist, will speak at 4 p.m. next Thursday in Academic Auditorium.
Southeast Missouri State University students and faculty will be admitted free, but there is a $5 charge for the public.
The event is sponsored by the Student Activities Council. "Student fees are being used to bring him in," said Nathan Cooper, the council's president.
Williams will receive a $7,500 honorarium.
Williams chairs the economics department at George Mason University at Fairfax, Va.
He has authored articles for numerous magazines and has written five books.
Williams will speak on the economy as part of a program on job prospects for college graduates.
A reception for Williams will follow at 5:30 p.m. in the third-floor lounge at the University Center.
The Southeast Missourian, which regularly carries Williams' columns on its editorial page, will be the host of the reception. Admission to the reception is free.
