Area high school seniors will attend a regional college-technical school fair Monday from noon to 2:30 at the Show Me Center.
Some 64 colleges, universities, technical schools and military branches will be represented at the fair.
Students from 15 area high schools plan to attend.
Also, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, parents and their high-school children are invited to visit with school representatives.
In its seventh year, the regional fair attracts admissions representatives because of the number of high school students who attend.
When each school had its own college fair, budgets didn't always allow all invited college representatives to attend.
The Southeast Missouri School Counselor Association sponsors the event, and Sarah Nussbaum, Perryville High School counselor, encouraged all qualified students to attend.
"It gives the students a chance to talk one-on-one with a representative from the college, see what programs are available and check on scholarship opportunities," Nussbaum said. "Choosing a college is not an overnight thing. It takes a lot of preparation."
Once the choices are narrowed down, students can visit campuses.
While all college brochures look good, Nussbaum said, each school has its own good and bad sides and its own personality.
