College Day for Kids, Nov. 19 at the compause of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau will give a group of elementary school students from the Missouri Bootheel a chance to learn the value of a college education.

Students in a "Service and Community" course at Southeast organized the program as a community service project. The course is is taught by Jack Stokes, assistant professor of social work.

Students from the class will guide 75 children, ages 7 to 12, as they attend sessions around the campus and learn about different careers that require a college degree.

The program reinforced the value of education and encourages the students to prepare for college.

The youths will come to Southeast from schools between Hayti and Sikeston.

Foster and fellow students Tara Holler, Tracy Schaefer, Mindy Hanson and Lori Hahn organized the event.

College Day for Kids is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is being sponsored by Southeast's School of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning.
