JONESBORO, Ill. -- Union County has a new sheriff.
Democrat Harlen Coffman, who defeated incumbent Robin A. Dillon of Anna in the Democratic primary, led local candidates in balloting Tuesday. He got 4,763 votes to defeat Republican Roy E. Walker in the race for sheriff Tuesday.
In the only other local race in Union County, Democrat Commissioner Wayne "Doc" Manus lost to Republican Larry A. Wheaton, who received 3,931 votes. Manus collected 2,850 votes.
A proposal for a special public building commission lost by more than 2,500 votes, 4,305 to 1,670.
