Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to an accident Wednesday evening in which a Coast Guard employee was injured, said Captain Brad Dillow.

Firefighters received the call around 7:30 p.m. and transported the accident victim to a nearby hospital, Dillow said.

The man's finger was severed during the mishap, though it is still unclear what happened, Dillow said.

The boat was a Coast Guard tug out of Chattanooga, Tenn., he said.
