Barbara Popp was hostess for the club's annual Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 19, with each member bringing a covered dish.
Nelda Crader, president, opened the meeting with pledges to our flags.
Pat Hecht, treasurer, gave her report and Barbara Barks, secretary, read the minutes from October's meeting. Both were approved as read.
Roll call was answered by each telling her favorite Thanksgiving food. There were 14 members present.
Reports were given on the state meeting in Jefferson City, district meeting in Doniphan, Mo., leadership training meeting in Farrar, Mo., status of literacy contest, scholarship winner, and presentations of state FCE awards. The club's Christmas display in Jackson City Park was put up by Jean Rehak and Marilyn Retherford.
A thank-you card was received from the American Legion Auxiliary in Jackson for the donation sent from the club.
November's project for the club was to take $50 from the treasury to purchase items for military soldiers in Afghanistan and taken to Jackson Elks Lodge to be sent along with other donated items.
A get-well card was sent to Melva Floyd who recently had surgery.
Pennies for Friendship and flower fund were collected.
Bingo at Missouri Veterans Home was held Nov. 25 with Betty Dellinger, Barbara Barks and Jean Rehak attending. Betty Dellinger, Barbara Barks and Peggy Barks went to the veterans home Dec. 4. They delivered new sock hats, gloves and wool scarves for the veterans.
Crader said her daughter would help make the club's program books for 2014.
The next scheduled meeting is Dec. 17 at Marilyn Retherford's home. Secret pals for 2013 will be revealed.
Cape County Extension Education Center in Jackson is where Kage FCE Club hosted the Cape County FCE Council meeting Dec. 5.
JoAnn Hahs, president of the county clubs, opened the meeting.
Mary Klaproth, secretary of Town and Country Club, gave the roll call with 24 members present. She read the minutes from the October meeting with one correction made and the remaining minutes approved.
Jean Rehak, treasurer of Oak Ridge Club, passed out copies of the treasurer's report and it was approved.
Peggy Barks of Oak Ridge Club, was Cape County scholarship winner to Missouri state meeting in Jefferson City Sept. 18 through 20. She gave a report on her experience.
Marilyn Retherford of Oak Ridge Club gave a report on the district meeting in Doniphan, Mo., Oct. 10. She also reported all literature for the Literacy Contest had been passed out to Cape Girardeau County schools and would be picked up before the Christmas break.
Reports were given on the leadership training at Farrar, Mo., held Nov. 1. Dortha Strack reported on the scholarship winner of $300 and introduced Dakota Oehl from Oak Ridge, a junior at Southeast Missouri State University.
Hahs announced the recipes tested at the district meeting were published in "Missouri Today's Farmer" magazine. She also reported on the state report winners. FCE reports for 2014 will be made up of action, leadership and education.
The following announcements were made: Child Advocacy Day is April 1, 2014, in Jefferson City; FCE spring meeting is April 22 in Poplar Bluff; and Missouri state meeting is Oct. 1-3 at Lake of the Ozarks.
The morning program was given by Mary Gosche, human development specialist with Cape County Extension Center in Jackson, on the Affordable Health Care Act.
New officers installed are: Shirley Palen, Kage Club, president; Mariesa Lesch, Oak Ridge Club, vice president; Mary Klaproth, Town and Country Club, recording secretary; Barbara Barks, Oak Ridge Club, corresponding secretary; Jean Rehak, Oak Ridge Club, treasurer; and Peggy Barks, Oak Ridge Club, public relations.
Kage Club member Inez Statler led the group in prayer before lunch was served.
Because of weather conditions, the afternoon program was cancelled and the meeting adjourned.
