Lamplighters FCE met in the home of Teresa Hinkebein for their September meeting. There were nine members in attendance. The hostess gave two devotional thoughts: "Book Me a Room" and "Mothers Were Once Daughters." Roll call was answered with "an old-fashioned remedy I use."
Officers for the 2014 club year were elected: Jo Ann Hahs, president; Karen McLane, vice president; Verla Mangels, secretary; Linda Seabaugh, treasurer; Jackie Kurre, public relations; Roberta Allen, song leader; and Bev Meyer, game leader.
The October Lamplighters FCE club meeting was held at Shogun's in Cape Girardeau. With an emphasis on international meals, 11 members had the meal there and Sharon Bogenpohl presented thoughts about foreign countries' foods. Part of her presentation tested members' knowledge about the origins of foreign foods.
Kurre read Andy Rooney's commentary on prayer as the devotional thought. Each member responded to the roll call by telling their favorite international meal. McLane reported on the Fall district meeting in Doniphan, Mo. The October sew day for making weighted Autism items saw 37 blankets and 16 lap pads completed.
The Nancy Hunter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met Nov. 20 in the Geraldine Hirsch Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Charlotte Slinkard, regent, opened the meeting with the DAR Ritual, "The Pledge of Allegiance" and the American's Creed.
Dale Humphries and Linda Dillman were welcomed as guests of the chapter.
The program was presented by Mary-Ann Maloney, news anchor at KFVS-TV. She outlined her career as a broadcast journalist and gave insights into the work involved in gathering the news and editing it for nightly broadcasts. She presented a video of local interest from her "Everybody has a Story" series.
The NSDAR President General's November message to the chapters was read by Carol Cannon. An ongoing project of the National Society is to encourage the membership to do volunteer work in order to collectively contribute one million hours of community service a year. Members now have the ability to electronically log service hours as they are performed via the national DAR website.
The National Defense message was given by LaFern Stiver, who stressed the importance of U.S. military preparedness in today's unstable world.
Karen Ruth Lang, treasurer, announced that all dues have been collected in a timely manner and the chapter will receive Honor Roll credit.
Registrar Catherine Allison reported the chapter has 10 perspective members and one completed application is being sent to Washington, D.C., for verification.
Sue LeBruyere, DAR Schools chairman, has sent product labels to Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina. She reminded members to save labels from Campbell Soups and other designated products.
The chapter has purchased a Missouri State Flag to be presented to the Cape River Heritage Museum in memory of former member Marie Watkins Oliver. A formal dedication service will be held in the spring.
The next meeting will be Dec. 11 at the Missouri Veterans Home.
The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Nov. 21 in the Huels Room.
The annual memorial service for deceased members was conducted.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Attendance: Becky McLean, president; Pat Eftink, treasurer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary; and Kate Schaefer, past-president were present. Mary Buxton, vice president was absent.

The National Council of Catholic Women convention will be held in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 2014.
Information for the Catholic Women for Christ Annual Conference to be held on Jan. 25, 2014, in St. Charles, Mo., was distributed.
Dolores Gibbar reported that three bereavement dinners were served. Ladies also served Donut Sunday, reception for the listening session with Bishop Johnston and following the Mass for Life.
Eftink reported on the Region VII meeting held in Glennon, Mo., a video featuring Father Wade Meniess was shown. The Spring Assembly will be held on April 25 and 26 at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
Polly Morgan reported on the national convention. Individual dues are being reduced from $75 to $60. $100 from the silent auction will be sent to Options for Women in Cape Girardeau. Oran is sponsoring a trip in December.
Sign-up sheets to work at the craft/bake sale Friday and Saturday were passed around.
The Christmas dinner will be held in the Huels Room at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Jennifer Landewee and Gail Timpe were hostesses.
The meeting closed with prayer.
