The 69th Annual MAFCE Conference was held Aug. 24 through 26 at the Ramada Inn Conference Center in Columbia, Mo.

Those attending from Cape Girardeau County were Barbara Schaffner and Martha Slaten of the Kage Club; JoAnn Hahs of the Lamplights Club; Carole Jo Byrd, Nelda Crader and Betty Dellinger of the Oak Ridge Club; and Shirley Heise, Sue Jones, Mary Klaproth, Lois Seabaugh, Carolyn Thompson and Linda Thompson of the Town and Country Club.

The theme of the conference was "Imagine the Possibilities." Dr. Jo Britt-Rankin, University of Missouri-Columbia adviser, presented the proclamation from Gov. Matt Blunt that proclaimed Oct. 9 through 15 as National Family Education Week.

The following educational workshops were presented: health, "All Stressed Up and a Million Places to Go"; literacy, "Head Start"; international, Switzerland; leadership skills, "Practicing Proper Protocol"; and membership, "The Spark of an Organization."

A hands-on workshop was offered on doll making.

There were 12 first-time attendees, four past presidents in attendance, 106 club members and 12 guests attending the conference.

Lamplighters FCE

The August meeting of the Lamplighters FCE Club was a "homecoming" dinner held Aug. 27 at the New Salem Church fellowship hall in Daisy. The meal was prepared by members.

Past members of the clubs and members' husbands were guests. Mary Gosche from the district office in Jackson and her husband, were also present.

JoAnn Hahs, president, welcomed all and gave a history of the club. Roberta Seabaugh and Hahs gave members aprons that they had made.

A short business meeting was held after the dinner. Judy Myers gave a report on the booth for the SEMO District Fair. A thank-you card was read from Karen McLane. She was thanking members for meals and cards given to her during her recent surgery.

Hahs reported on the State FCE meeting held Aug. 24 through 26 in Columbia. The Lamplighter Club was awarded a grant written and submitted by Hahs.

She reported an emphasis in the upcoming year on heart disease in women and domestic violence.

Linda Sebaugh wrote the county report for marketing and membership and received a second-place award from the state.
