Sixteen members attended the Sept. 11 meeting at the post home. Hostesses for the noon luncheon were Muriel Day, Donna Hinze and Reba Strayhorn.
The minutes of the August meeting were read, with one correction being made, the treasurer's report was read and filed for audit.
Barbara Yallaly read an article "Proud to be an American" in observance of the Sept. 11 attack on the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Members voted to pay obligory donations to the proper state and district departments. The USO of Missouri was awarded $100, and $100 to the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, and $1,000 will be given to the American Legion Post 63 baseball team.
A thank-you note was read from Jefferson Elementary School for school supplies and clothing.
Linda Kern received a certificate for the successful poppy day she chaired and organized.
The next meeting and luncheon will be Oct. 12.
St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Sept. 19 in St. Mary Cathedral School lobby. Cece Boos told about the procedures for making the mosaic mural of the Annunciation that is now hanging in the school lobby.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Pat Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's current report. She read a request from National CCW for a donation to help fund the convention; from Catholic Charities to furnish the Maternity Home in the former Carmelite Convent. It was moved by Nancy King and seconded by Mary Buxton that a donation be given to Catholic Charities. Motion carried.
In the absence of Brenda Kuhn, spirituality commission, Becky McLean reminded members of the study groups that meet weekly and the spiritual book club that meets once a month.
Dolores Gibbar reported no bereavement dinners served.
Option for Women, sponsored by Knights of Columbus, was presented at the Region 7 meeting at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Mo. This is a statewide program that will provide pregnancy testing, counseling, and for those considering an abortion, an ultrasound. Most women do not have an abortion after viewing their ultrasound. Prayers are requested at this time for the success of this undertaking. Volunteers and funds are also needed. The office will be located in Cape Girardeau.
Deacon Jim Long is the new spiritual moderator for Region 7.
The next meeting will be Oct. 17.
