Six members of the John Guild Chapter of National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution attended the Southeast District meeting at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Oak Ridge FCE

The Oak Ridge FCE meeting was held June 19 at the home of Melva Floyd with 13 members present.

President Jean Rehak opened the meeting with pledges to the flag and singing a song, and roll call was answered with the name a favorite book.

Devotion was given by Rehak on the American flag from Hearth Fire Series No. 11.

Secretary Nelda Crader gave the minutes from May's meeting, and Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved. Crader also gave a report on the quarterly council meeting held at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson on June 7.

Fall district meeting will be held Oct. 11 at the Extension Center with Cape Girardeau County serving as host.

Recipes from Egypt were discussed for the Aug. 21 meeting, members were encouraged to bring food recipes listed in FCE booklet or those found on Internet.

Marilyn Retherford passed out certificates to members who sent Christmas cards to military personnel.

Rehak and Retherford both gave a program on household hints and paper and plastic from Hearth Fire Series No. 49.

A thank-you card was received from Loretta Musgrave's family for the appreciation of food, visitation and stepping stone in memory of their mother. Musgrave's was a sister to Oak Ridge FCE member Betty Dellinger.

Oct. 30 was announced for the next autism project work day.

June's project for the club was a donation to the American Cancer Society.

A spool jar guessing game was won by Lee Anderson.

July's meeting was a Club Out Day for a meal at Olive Garden with eight Oak Ridge FCE attending. No business was discussed.

The Aug. 21 meeting was held at Jackson Elks Lodge with 15 members and one guest present, with Crader serving as hostess.

Devotion was given by Pat Hecht with two poems, "Worry" by Max Lucado and "I Walked with God" by Farmer Cowdney.

Crader, secretary, and Criddle, treasurer, gave their reports, and both were approved.

Roll call was answered with telling about how they got a scar.

Plans were discussed for the state MAFCE annual conference, to be held Oct. 4 and 5 in Hannibal, Mo.

Membership dues were collected for 2013.

A committee was formed to seek out new officers for 2013: Mariesa Lesch, Peggy Barks, Retherford, Criddle and Floyd,

Coins for Friendship and flower fund were collected. The club voted to change the flower fund, when sending condolences would be for husband and children only.

Mary Dee Ford was presented a FCE pin for 65 years in the club.

A donation was sent to a gentleman from Oak Ridge who was burned in a vehicle accident and will be in a St. Louis burn unit for several weeks.

Guest speaker for the meeting was a retired teacher from the Cape Girardeau School District. She made a trip to Egypt in 2008. She gave a program and had several books of pictures from that country along with a few items she collected.

Crader had a true/false game on Egypt.

An Egyptian meal was served and made by club members.

Cape Girardeau County FCE Council

The Cape Girardeau FCE Council meeting was held Sept. 6 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. President JoAnn Hahs opened the meeting with pledges to the American and Missouri flags. Devotion was given by Jackie Kurre from Lamplighters FCE with a poem "How Old is Grandpa" and "Watch What You Eat."

Minutes were given by secretary Mary Klaproth from the March and June meetings, and Jean Rehak gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved as read.

Roll call was given with 10 members plus Mary Gosche, human development specialist.

Scholarship committee report was given by Dortha Strack. Only two applications were received to date with a deadline of Oct. 15 for the spring semester.

Tour committee report was given by Klaproth.

Unfinished business: Sweet potato recipes were tested in May from Cape County FCE and a $150 check was received from Today's Farmers magazine. The check will be deposited into the FCE council checking account. Also Klaproth turned in $17 from tours.

Two members from Town and Country FCE went to the NAFCE conference in Kentucky, Sue Jones and Klaproth.

The Missouri MAFCE conference will be held Oct. 4 and 5 in Hannibal, Mo. Registration forms are on the MAFCE.com website. All clubs will need $15 in items for the gift shop.

By-law revision, corresponding secretary will send out thank-you and sympathy cards to immediate family and all other correspondence.

Fall district meeting will be held Oct. 11 at Extension Center in Jackson with Cape Girardeau County serving as hostess. Registration at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10:30 a.m. The theme will be FCE "Reaching Out." Program committee members are Judie Herbst and Strack from Kage Club. Food committee will be Hahs. The cost for each member will be $10. All clubs should bring desserts for lunch and snacks for morning registration.

Decorating/table favor committee: Barb Marshall, Linda Freeman, Jones, and Rehak.

FCE Autism Work Day at the Jackson Extension will be Oct. 30. Hahs suggested the group have a Halloween party while working on blankets. It was noted more material is needed for the autism project.

New business was 2013 membership forms and dues, which are due Oct. 1 with checks payable to Cape Girardeau County FCE.

Nominating committee report: Starting Jan. 1, Shirley Palen will take over as president. Klaproth will remain as secretary, and Rehak will remain as treasurer.

It was announced FCE Fall leadership training will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo.

Prorgrams include: Training on mini-vacations by travel agents at 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.; aphasia, by speech therapist 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.; India, 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.; benefits of producing and eating your own food by Judy Lueder, 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. RSVP by Nov. 1.

Town and Country FCE Club

An international dinner and program was the highlight of the Town and Country FCE Club meeting Sept. 13, at the home of Sue Jones. The arrangements were handled by Lois Seabaugh, Mary Klaproth and Jones. The dinner consisted of dishes from Egypt prepared by the club members. The menu included bean salad, koftit roz, cucumber yogurt salad, lemony carrot dip, Egyptian tabilah, Egyptian onion bread and Egyptian cake. Jones made booklets containing recipes, facts about Egypt and the flag and map of Egypt. Members and guests received small flags of Egypt.

Adelaide and Robert Parsons presented a program on Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan illustrated with slides. They also displayed items and books they had purchased in Egypt, and Robert Parsons wore the traditional Egyptian head wrap. Adelaide Parsons wore an Egyptian cartouche. Darlene McCain displayed an Egyptian dress her brother bought in Egypt and had given to her.

Klaproth presided over the business meeting. Members repeated the pledges to the U.S. and Missouri flags and the club collect. Roll call was answered by "a fact about Egypt." Pennies for Coins for Friendship were collected.

Members completed their membership forms, and Linda Thompson will mail the forms to Jean Rehak, county treasurer.

The club's September project will be to donate bingo prizes to the Lutheran Home. The delivery date will be decided at a later time.

Seabaugh reported on the vice president planning meeting held Aug. 24 at Farrar, Mo. The Fall leader training meeting will be held Nov. 16 in Farrar beginning with registration at 1 p.m. Lessons will include mini-vacations, aphasia, India and benefits of producing and eating our own food.

The spring leader training meeting will be held March 18 at the University of Missouri Extension office in Jackson beginning with registration at 9 a.m. Lessons will include new health plan, foods from roreign countries, autism and dangers of vitamins and supplements.

A brief report was given on the quarterly council meeting held Sept. 6.

Plans were completed for NAFCE Week to be held Oct. 7 through 13. The club will plant a tree or shrub at the University of Missouri Extension office in Jackson if there is a need, display the club's fair booth at Ross Furniture Store and attend New McKendree United Methodist Church Oct. 6 or 7 and later go out to eat.

All members paid their money to attend the fall district meeting to be held Oct. 11 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Klaproth will furnish some morning refreshments and Seabaugh will furnish a pumpkin pie for one of the noon desserts. Town and Country FCE Club, with McCain in charge, will furnish a centerpiece to be given later as a door prize at the meeting. All members attending are to bring an item for the silent auction.

Members will bring Christmas cards for the Military Mail project to the Oct. 11 meeting. Members will also bring Halloween candy to fill Halloween treat sacks for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center. The club will provide a Halloween party for the students at Parkview State School.

Club out will be a pizza party at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of McCain. The club will make items from the box of beads the club received at the spring district meeting.

Seabaugh received the door prize.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the home of Joyce King. Jones will present the program on ovarian cancer.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

The Sept. 12 meeting opened with "The Fallen but not Forgotten," a tribute to those whose lives were lost Sept. 11, 2001, and the playing of the hymn "How Great Thou Art." There were 22 members in attendance. The 50/50 was won by Barbara Yallaly and Edna Smith won the attendance prize.

Vergie Templeton, sunshine chairwoman, reported sending get-well cards to Margie Kurre and Irene Winston. Linda Sanders will be the new sunshine chairwoman as Templeton asked to be relieved of the position.

Members voted to participate in the Treats for Troops project. Candy will be delivered to Ruopp and Ruopp Dentistry and will be shipped to service men and women in Afghanistan.

A gift card will be given to Freeman Lewis in appreciation of auditing the club's books.

The annual ham and bean dinner will be held 11 a.m.to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the post home. Ladies are to bring two cakes each for the desserts.

The next meeting will be Oct. 10. Lunch will be served at noon, and the meeting will start at 1 p.m.
