Zonta Club
The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Area met Sept. 7 at the University Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Featured speaker was Theresa Wilman from the SEMO Network Against Sexual Violence. She explained the existing services that are offered and that the main goal is to create an atmosphere where individuals are helped from being victims to survivors. They are also working for prevention of abuse in addition to services for after-the-fact occurrences.
Further planning for the Women of Achievement Luncheon to be held Sept. 30 was discussed.
FCE Wonderworkers
The FCE Wonderworkers Club met Sept. 9 in the home of Nelda Starzinger. The hostess gave the devotional. Discussions were on topics for the 2005 programs with the first training session to be in Perry County on Nov. 5, the Fall District FCE Extension meeting to be held in Greenville, Mo., on Oct. 9, and the Christmas trip to Our Lady of the Snow on Dec. 11.
A report was given by Margie W. Reisenbichler on the Cape Girardeau County FCE council meeting.
Club members provided refreshments for an activity day at the Cape Girardot Center for Youth on Sept. 19, and fall table decorations are being made for each cottage.
Christmas cards to be sent to the military troops are to be brought to the next meeting.
Election of officers for 2005 were: June Landgraf, president; Starzinger, vice president; Margie W. Reisenbichler, secretary-treasurer; and Margie C. Reisenbichler, reporter.
The program was given by Starzinger on healthy quick cooking.
The next meeting will be at the home of Landgraf at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. The program will be on the country of Romania.
American Legion Auxiliary
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary met Sept. 8 at the Legion Hall and carpooled to River Ridge Winery in Commerce, Mo., and then to Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, Mo.
Americanism chairman Peggy Blaylock will present an American flag and a Missouri flag to Blanchard Elementary School in Cape Girardeau. Marilyn Ritter, education chairman, took school supplies to Jefferson Elementary School in Cape Girardeau.
The Post's annual Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Nov. 10. A bazaar and chicken and dumpling meal will be held on Nov. 13. The bazaar and chicken and dumpling dinner are open to the public. Meal tickets need to be purchased in advance. The bazaar will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the meal to be served from 3:30 to 7 p.m. or until sold out.
The next meeting will be Oct. 13.
New McKendree UMW
The United Methodist Women of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson met in the church fellowship hall on Sept. 2 for the first meeting of the fall season. Marilyn Fronabarger opened the meeting with a devotional reading.
The Naomi Circle was in charge of the program and chairman Violet Reynolds presented Amy Cook as the speaker. Cook told of her recent trip to the Legislative Event in Jefferson City where UMW from the entire Mission Conference gather each March to learn more about the legislative process. The two-day event included small group meetings to learn about the issues facing the legislators and visiting a session of the legislature.
Announcements were made of the Church Women United Awareness Luncheon which will be held at New McKendree with the local unit providing the hospitality items.
The District Fall Meeting will be held in Kennett, Mo., on Oct. 16. The Conference Annual Meeting will be in Columbia, Mo., on Oct. 9 and 10.
The Dorcas Circle was hostess to the salad luncheon which followed the business meeting. This circle also won the attendance ribbon for the largest number of members in attendance.
Roberts Homemakers
Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club met for lunch at Wendy's restaurant before going to Riverside Regional Library in Jackson for the September meeting.
Judy Bryant led in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of several songs. Flossie Dow gave the devotional.
It was voted to send a donation of $25 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief for hurricane victims.
Pat Terry was elected as telephone chairman. A program on the history, kinds and uses of apples was given by Kay Millham.
Eastside Homemakers
The Eastside Homemakers Club met at Pizza Inn in Fruitland on Sept. 15. The devotional was given by Loretta Atkins.
For the program, each member told something she remembered about her grandmother. The Oct. 20 meeting will be held at Chinatown Buffet in Cape Girardeau at 11 a.m.
Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club
The September meeting of the Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club was held at the Country Kettle in Biehle. There were 10 members present and three guests.
Luella Armstrong presided and led the "Pledge of Allegiance." Omega Hawkins voiced the table prayer.
Program chairman Mary Mouser introduced the guest speaker, Marilyn Duncan, coordinator of the Arthritis Center. The club gave her a donation for the Scholarship Fund Arthritis Unit.
The next meeting will be Oct. 11 at the Country Kettle. Evelyn Ritchie will be program chairman and Armstrong will be hostess. Dorothy Strack will be the guest speaker.
Friendship Club
The Friendship Club met Sept. 14 at the home of Caroline Galloway. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Evelyn Moore gave the devotionals "Love is a grandparent" and "Daily Prayer."
Larry Galloway, a member of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, gave a program on fire prevention and demonstrated the proper procedure to follow for putting out a fire.
The next meeting will be in the home of Elsie Gerecke on Oct. 12. Members will bring food for the Food Pantry to this meeting.
Laureate Alpha Rho
The Laureate Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 16 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for lunch and a meeting with Norma Schneider serving as hostess.
The treasurer's report was read by Schneider. Discussions were held regarding service projects. It was announced that the Cape Girardeau Country Club will be the site for the upcoming chapter Christmas party.
Schneider gave a program entitled "Thankful ABCs."
The next meeting will be held in the home of Dorothy Miles.
