FCE Wonderworkers

The FCE Wonderworkers Extension Club met at the home of Margie E. Reisenbichler on Aug. 8. The meeting was opened by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and the devotion "Keep the fork" was given by the hostess.

Business was on a project for the Girardot Center for Youth and Family. Members voted to remain in the extension and dues were to be brought to the September meeting on Thursday at the home of Nelda Starzinger.

The program was on candlemaking and was given by Reisenbichler. Each member was given a floating heart candle and a fireplace starter made by the project chairman.

Anyone wishing to visit or become a member of the club should call June Landgraf at 243-5912.

SEMO District FCE

Cape Girardeau County, a county in the FCE Southeast Missouri District group, joined participating FCE counties in Missouri at the 2004 Annual Conference in Columbia, Mo., on Aug. 26 and 27. The theme of the conference was "The ABCs of FCE." There were showcase educational displays, a county store and a message therapy room available for members.

Ruth Meilor, past president, spoke on Family and Community Leadership, and Susan Mills-Gray with the University of Missouri-Columbia and formerly of Cape Girardeau County, presented a humorous talk titled "It's all in a day's work."

Cape Girardeau County's scholarship winner, Shirley Heise of Cape Girardeau, was in attendance. She had entered a contest and won her registration for the conference. She attended a recent national event in Richmond, Va., and had her name drawn to attend the 2005 national conference in Anchorage, Alaska. She will again have her registration paid for that event.

Cape Girardeau County had 10 other members attending the conference. Mary Goshe, human development specialist for Cape Girardeau County, was in attendance for the Thursday night banquet.

A large workshop was conducted for attendees on Friday. Subjects for study included: Health -- "Something just for me"; literacy -- "No child left behind"; children and TV -- "Are bullies for real?"; environment -- "Identity theft and fraud"; and international -- "invitation to Alaska." These subjects will also be studied throughout the state during the 2005 club year.

Young Americans 4-H

The Young Americans 4-H Club met Aug. 19 at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau with Clint Heuer presiding. Tori Schweer and Claire Illers led the U.S. and 4-H pledges. Those having August birthdays were recognized. Micayla Gray led a song. There were 21 members and 16 leaders present.

Julia Weber read the minutes of the last meeting, and Michael Weber gave the treasurer's report. Members gave reports on dairy, foods and home environment project meetings.

Sign-up sheets were available for next year's club committees.

Election of officers was held. They are: Leslie Birk, president; Tori Schweer, vice president; Micayla Gray, secretary; Clint Heuer, treasurer; B.J. Heuer and Gavin Seyer, game leaders; Blake Telle and Julia Weber; song leaders; and Annie Yuede and Nathan Schneider, Clover Kid song leaders.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 23. Refreshments were served by the Kirchdoerfer family.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Sept. 7 at the home of Tammy Monia. The Three Star Rating certification was presented and will be placed in the 2003-2004 scrapbook.

A report was given about the Beginning Day Banquet held Aug. 30 at Francine's Gardens and hosted by Xi Nu Phi. The social calendar for the year was given to members. There will be six members attending the state convention in St. Louis Oct. 22 through 24.

An update on the 2005 state convention to be held in Cape Girardeau was given by Debbie Balsano and Cathy Pancoast. Members placed orders for T-shirts and sweat shirts.

The chapter will attend the Tunes at Twilight event on Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. held behind the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau.

The program was "Types of coffee beverages" presented by Monia. The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Renee Hesselrode at which time a pledge ritual will be held.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Club met in the home of Inez Statler on Sept. 9. The hostess gave the devotional on laughter and its benefits.

The program on Romania was presented by Verna Bogel. Romania is the country of FCE's International study for 2004.

The family chicken and dumpling dinner is scheduled for Oct. 18 at the Extension Center in Jackson.

Members Dortha Strack and Jobyne Daume participated recently in the Crystal Club activity of cleaning glasses for patients at the Lutheran Home. Other members will work in this program in the future.

A donation from the club treasury was given to the Alzheimer's Memory Walk to be held Saturday. This was supplemented by contributions from individual members.

The recent conference of Missouri Association for Family and Community Education in Columbia was reported upon by club members who attended -- Opal Collins, Linda Farrow, Martha Slaten, Barbara Schaffner, Daume and Strack.

Topics for leader training for 2005 were presented and members were given a chance to select sessions they were interested in attending. The first session will be held on Nov. 5 in Perryville, Mo.

The fall meeting of the Southeast District FCE is scheduled for Oct. 5 in Greenville, Mo. Several members will attend at which time dolls for Child Advocacy Day may be taken and will be sent to Jefferson City, Mo., from there.

The next meeting will be on Oct. 14 and held by Vogel. Christmas greetings to our troops will be brought to this meeting.

Town and Country FCE

Town and Country FCE Club met at the home of Margie McAnally on Sept. 9. Dinner and refreshments were served before the meeting.

Thank-you notes were read from Shirley Heise for memorials for her husband, Merril, and for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mary Klaproth, Darlene McCain, Lois Seabaugh, Carolyn Thompson, Linda Thompson and Heise recently attended the MAFCE Annual Conference in Columbia, Mo. Town and Country FCE received two MAFCE grants. Linda Thompson received a $125 grant for Cottonwood Treatment Center and Seabaugh received a $50 grant for landscaping the University of Missouri Extension Office Center.

An announcement was made regarding the leadership training meetings in November in Perry County and in April 2005 at the Extension office in Jackson. The district fall meeting will be on Oct. 5 in Greenville, Mo.

A motion was made and seconded to pay Debbie Riehn $25 for making the fair booth posters.

On the morning of Sept. 25, the club will plant a tree at the Extension office in Jackson. On Oct. 10, the club will attend the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson where Darlene McCain's brother, Martin Martinson, will deliver the sermon.

The club will again participate in the Military Fan Mail for Christmas with each member bringing 10 Christmas cards.

Mini programs were given by Norma Schrieber on managing insurance costs and preventive health care.

Members will meet at 6 p.m. Friday at Fruitland to go to Biehle for a fish supper.

The next meeting will be Oct. 14 at the home of Lois Seabaugh.
