Cape Girardeau County Extension Council

The Cape Girardeau County Extension Council met for their quarterly meeting on Sept. 4 at Cape County Extension Center in Jackson. Agnes Wachter, president, presided over the meeting.

Mary Klaproth, chairman of the FCE tour committee, reported on reservations made for upcoming tours, a trip to Stages to see "The Music Man," on Sept. 27 and to see the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Christmas concert at Ppowell Hall on Dec. 19.

Dortha Strack reported on behalf of the nominating committee and the following officers were elected for the upcoming year and will be installed at the December meeting: Inez Statler, president; Carolyn Thompson, recording secretary; and Roberta Seabaugh, treasurer.

Klaproth reported on attending the 2008 National FCE meeting in Burlington, Vt., in July.

Mary Gosche thanked those who attended the vice president leader training meeting in August at the Perry County Extension Center. All programs were selected for 2009. The fall leader training will be Nov. 7. Programs will be recipes with Splenda and club sharing of ideas from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and filling out report forms and grant writing tips from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Seabaugh reported that nine students applied for the FCE scholarship. Jennifer Hinkebein, a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia was the recipient of the scholarship.

Members were reminded of the state FCE conference to be held at Drury Inn in Cape Girardeau Oct. 2 and 3.

The community project for Cape Girardeau County FCE clubs is helping the Jackson Elks Lodge with the Christmas baskets of clothing for children. Donated items can be dropped off at the Jackson Extension Center at anytime.

The next quarterly meeting is scheduled for Dec. 4 at the Jackson Extension Center. Kage Club will host the meeting.
