Alpha Rho chapter
Bonnie Hennessy was hostess for the Sept. 5 meeting of Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
The hostess presented the program on superstitions.
A leave of absence was granted to Shirley Glaab and Pat Taylor because of illness, and a member-at-large status was granted to Patty Hastings, who is moving. Edna Hey will replace Glaab as corresponding secretary.
The all-chapter preferential tea will be held Oct. 21 at Centenary United Methodist Church.
Lamplighters FCE
An international meal featuring the country of Cameroon was held at the Aug. 15 meeting of Lamplighters FCE Club. Jackie Kurre was hostess and gave the devotional.
Linda Sebaugh conducted the business session. Reports were given from committees on Relay for Life, Adopted Family, and SEMO District Fair booth. Members were reminded that money is due now for the October trip to Hannibal.
It was decided to increase the donations to Nickels for Youth and Pennies for Friendship, and to have a Christmas display at Cape County Park.
Sharon Bogenpohl presented the program on "A Trip to Cameroon."
Karen McLane will be hostess for the September meeting.
Cape County FCE
The quarterly meeting of Cape Girardeau County FCE was held Aug. 29 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
Sixteen members attended, representing seven clubs. Nelda Crader gave the devotional "Life Is...."
Those who attended the national FCE meeting in St. Louis shared ideas and information. The 2003 meeting will be held in Albuquerque, N.M.
Inez Statler read a thank-you note from David Palmer and the American Red Cross. It was noted that 38 units of blood were collect at the FCE's July blood drive.
Mary Klaproth talked about upcoming trips: Kentucky Opera Sept. 14, Branson Nov. 15-17, and Christmas trip to Meramec Caverns Dec. 14.
Agnes Wachter told about plans and how others may participate in a Log Cabin Flower quilt raffle fund-raising event. Half of the proceeds will go to the Cancer Center and half will be used by the county council.
Officers elected for 2003 are: Crader, president elect; Wachter, recording secretary; and Opal Collins, treasurer.
Shirley Cracraft reported there is still time to turn in scholarship applications at the extension center.
It was reported the leader training meeting will be held Sept. 23 at Tric's Restaurant in Altenburg.
A free workshop on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren will be held Oct. 8, 15, 22 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
