Town, Country FCE

Linda Thompson was hostess and gave the devotional at the Aug. 8 meeting of Town and Country FCE Club.

Sue Jones presided and club dues were paid for 2003. Plans were finalized for the SEMO District Fair booth, and it was decided to have a booth at the Osage Community Centre garage sale Nov. 2.

A thank-you note was read from Clover Kids 4-H for a monetary gift.

Announcements included: club out Aug. 22 at Jackson Homecomers, planning meeting Aug. 27 for the Fall District Meeting, quarterly council meeting Aug. 29 at the extension office in Jackson, and Sue Jones and Mary Klaproth will attend state meeting Sept. 6 in Columbia.

Members were asked to bring items for the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry to the Sept. 12 meeting.

The program on mulching and composting was given by Shirley Heise.

Lois Seabaugh will be hostess for the Sept. 12 meeting.

Exchange Club

Members of Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met July 16 at Port Cape.

Larry Simon showed a video on 100 years of the former Missouri Utilities Co. and currently AmerenUE.

It was decided to buy fans and take to the Salvation Army.

Lamplighters FCE

The July 18 meeting of Lamplighters FCE was held at Jackson City Park, following a meal at Mazzio's Pizza.

School supplies were collected for the club's adopted family.

Teresa Hinkebein presented the program on "Families Now and Then."

Following the meeting, the group attended the outdoor concert.

The next meeting is Aug. 15 at the home of Jackie Kurre.

Kage FCE Club

Members of Kage FCE Club met Aug. 8 at Cape Senior Center. Shirley Ruehling was hostess and gave the devotional. Roll call was telling of a current event.

Michael Weber and Julia Weber of Young Americans 4-H Club gave demonstrations on "How to Make a No-Sew Pillow" and "Chocolate Crescents," respectively.

Joan Meyer presented a mini lesson on "Searching for Chocolate."

Meyer read a letter she received from a serviceman in reply to her Valentine greeting. A thank-you note was read from Young Americans 4-H for the club's contribution to Clover Kids Camp.

Upcoming events include: planning meeting Aug. 27 for district FCE meeting in October; quarterly council meeting Aug. 29; MAFCE annual conference in Columbia Sept. 4-6; set up booths for SEMO District Fair Sept. 7; and planning for leader training Sept. 23.

A contribution was made to the senior center, and dues paid for 2003.

Officers elected for 2003 are: Dortha Strack, president; Inez Statler, vice president; Opal Collins, secretary/ reporter; Judie Herbst, treasurer; Verna Vogel, parliamentarian; and Shirley Palen, song leader.

Barbara Schaffner will be hostess for the Sept. 19 meeting.

VFW Auxiliary 3838

Rebecca McRaven was accepted as a new member at the Aug. 8 meeting of VFW Auxiliary 3838, held at the post home.

Deborah Griffin presided. Donations of $100 were made to Alzheimer's Association, Operation Uplink, and Missouri Patriot's Pen. A $50 donation was made to Bikers for Babies ride for March of Dimes.

Brenda Turner announced a day of fishing and a fish fry will be held Sept. 16 for Missouri Veterans Home residents. Bicycles were presented to winners in the Summer Reading Program at Cape Public Library.

It was voted to support action to keep "one nation under God" as part of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Griffin was endorsed as a candidate for state guard at the 2003 convention.

The Sept. 12 meeting and picnic will be held at VFW Lakes. Those needing transportation should be at the post home by 6 p.m.
