Presbyterian Women

The coordinating team of the Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson met Aug. 19 for their annual planning meeting in the church fellowship hall. Several members came early to roll bandages before the meeting started. Shirley Hutton, moderator, passed around copies of the agenda.

Mothers of Preschoolers coordinator Danna Lape has again requested our assistance during their meetings held at the church. They meet the third Thursday evening of every month and need help with snacks.

Carolyn Thompson, social director, has planned a trip to Giant City Lodge in Giant City, Ill., this fall. A date will be announced at the September meeting.

Hutton committed to distribute a calendar of PW related events at the September meeting. Program topics for the regular quarterly meetings were approved. A new mission project will be chosen at the September meeting.

The main topic of the meeting was the GLPW Fall Gathering to be held Oct. 14 at the church. Committed members were, Molly May Lowes, registration and treasurer; Mary Morton, name tags and signs; Fran Reid, bookmarks for favors at lunch; Judy Litz, table decorations; Anne Smith, prayer wreath; Doris Bollinger, Mary Stanley and Thompson, food committee; and Nancy Gillard, Jonell McNeely, Jane Hull and Roberta Brown, hostesses.

Sixty to 70 ladies are expected to attend the gating. Breakfast items will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be three workshops, Horizon Bible study, Raising teens in a Christian world and meditation display. There will also be a country store and a prayer wreath. Susan Venable will be pianist.

Oak Ridge FCE

The Oak Ridge FCE Club met Aug. 15 at the home of Barbara Popp. Nelda Crader reported having learned from the state chairperson that the report she compiled for the county had won honorable mention in the Home & Community Environmental Activity. Marilyn Retherford reported she had been notified of her report on literacy placed second, and Carole Jo Byrd is still waiting to learn of her report.

Frances Jenkins and Jean Rehak reported the fair booth for the SEMO District Fair is under control and would be completed by the fair.

Retherford reported the angel food basket taken to an adopted family was well received. She also told of the book selection she purchased for newborns to honor Day of the Family.

Dues for 2007 were paid to the treasurer. The project for next month will include sending a monetary donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Jenkins reported on having the club out with others from the club out. Retherford and Popp reported visiting the club's adopted families during the last month.

Attending and serving refreshment at Jackson Manor for birthday celebrations were Betty Dellinger, Billie Criddle, Byrd, Crader and Rehak. The September birthday celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 12.

Rehak and Crader will attend the quarterly council meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.

Plans for the state meeting will be finalized at the next meeting, which will be a picnic, to be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the home of Marilyn Retherford. At this time, the 90th Anniversary of the Oak Ridge Club will be celebrated. Lee Anderson and Criddle conducted a program on preparing for emergency bags for use by members' families.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Aug. 17 in the Monsignor Huels room of the parish office building.

Sister Louise Marie, SSND, presented the program on her work with Migrant Whole Health Outreach Inc., in Kennett, Mo. She told of the programs available in collaboration with various organizations in the surrounding area and is also linked with Southeast Missouri State University and Arkansas State University.

Margie Huber, organization commission, announced that the Fall Community Garage and Bake Sale will be held on Oct. 14 with set up on Oct. 13. The Spring sale is secheduled for March 24 with set up March 23.

Toilet tissue, laundry soap and bath soap were collected for the Catholic Food Pantry.

A covered dish supper will follow the Sept. 21 meeting. It will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Monsignor Huels room. Helen Sanders, RN, will present the program she gave at the Spring Assembly, specifically with information on the avian flu.

Tilsit 4-H

The Tilsit 4-H club met Aug. 3 at the Jackson City Park for their annual picnic. Matthew Golden, president, presided over the meeting. There were 24 members and 40 others present. David Gholson and Cody Aufdenberg led the pledges. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were given.

The club discussed working in the 4-H food stand at SEMO District Fair. Also, the nominating committee passed around an officer sheet and encouraged each member to sign up for an office that they would be interested in.

The club will given a $25 monetary gift to given away at the Cape County Prospect Show.

Each member was reminded to give a demonstration in order to complete the 4-H year. Also, project report forms are due at the October meeting.

The following demonstrations were given: Logan Birk, how to keep cake crumbs out of your icing; Paige Birk, how to show a pig; and Todd Aufdenberg, how to train a dog.

The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Gordonville Fire Station 2 near Tilsit.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met at China Buffet in Perryville, Mo., with seven members and three visitors present. Cynthia Alfaro, vice president, presided. During the business portion of the meeting, a letter was read from the American Lung Association. The club decided to send a donation to the association.

Hostess Laura Corse and program chairman Alfaro carried out the theme of "old," and read articles pertaining to "old ladies." The next meeting will be held Sept. 11 at Jay's Smokehouse in Jackson. Lillian Birkman will be hostess, and Mary Mouser will be program chairman.
