Town and Country FCE

Town and Country FCE Club met Aug. 8 at the home of Linda Thompson. The devotion by Thompson was entitled, "What will you do with this day that's so new?" by Helen Steiner Rice. Pennies were collected for "Coins for Friendship." A thank-you note was read from the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry for the donation of food given by the club.

Sue Jones, president, conducted the meeting. Membership forms for 2014 were completed and yearly dues paid. A September trivia calendar was given to members to participate in as a money-making project.

Mary Klaproth gave a report on the National FCE Conference she attended in Fargo, N.D. The conference just released three new Hearth Fire's.

The following officers were elected to serve for 2014 and will be installed Dec. 12: Thompson, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Darlene McCain, secretary; Klaproth, treasurer; Jones, reporter; and Donna Woolsey, cards and flowers.

Jones made the following announcements: FCE leader training planning meeting for vice presidents or any club member will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday and the FCE quarterly council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 with both meetings being held at Cape Girardeau County Extension Center in Jackson. Members are asked to bring program suggestions for 2014 to the planning meeting.

The MAFCE Annual Conference will be Sept. 18 through 20 in Jefferson City, Mo.

The program was presented by Klaproth on the dangers of vitamins and supplements, herbals for health, energy drinks: The truth behind the boost and medicines, don't just throw them away.

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hickory House Restaurant in Jackson. Klaproth received the hostess gift.

The next meeting will be the club's international dinner meeting on India at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the home of Jones. Recipes were given to members to prepare for the meal. Members are to bring Bingo prizes for the Lutheran Home to the meeting.

Cape Girardeau County AARP 4041

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 donated school supplies to Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School.

There will not be a meeting in September. The Oct. 7 meeting will have Dr. Bonnie Steppenhoff as guest speaker. On Nov. 4, the Area Agency on Aging will give a program on the updates of Medicare. The Christmas party and installation of officers for 2014 will be Dec. 2.
