Town & Country FCE
The Town & Country FCE Club met July 14 at Cape County Park South for its annual family picnic with 39 people in attendance. Shirley Heise had the most family members in attendance.
Arrangements for the picnic were made by a committee consisting of club members Margie McAnally, Linda Thompson and Carolyn Thompson.
Linda Thompson read table grace from the 1966 club yearbook in honor of the club's 39th anniversary as a Cape Girardeau County FCE club.
During a short business meeting, a 4-H demonstration was given by Truman Kinsey on liquid and dry measuring techniques. He is the grandson of Lois Seabaugh.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Lamplighters FCE Club met on July 21 at the home of Roberta Seabaugh. JoAnn Hahs, president, called the meeting to order, and the hostess gave the devotional.
Judy Myers, SEMO District Fair booth committee chairman, reported that the committee met to discuss plans for the club's booth at this year's fair.
Linda Freeman reported on the meeting held by her committee for a homecoming reception for past members to be held Aug. 27 in the fellowship hall at New Salem Church.
Hahs reported that several members met July 19 to make clothing protectors for the Missouri Veterans Home.
Verla Mangels gave a report on her volunteering at the FCE district blood drive held June 22.
Karen McLane gave a program on family roots. Freeman gave a program on osteoporosis titled "Bone-breaking Facts."
The next meeting will be held Aug. 27.
The Cape Girardeau County AARP 4041 met Aug 1. It was reported that the day of service held July 18 at the Missouri Veterans Home was a success. Also, senior day, held July 20, was well-attended. Sept. 14 will be senior day at the SEMO District Fair.
The grandparents' essay contest will be held in September.
Bob Harper was recognized for 15 years of service for the AARP safe driving course. A safe driving course will be held Sept. 13 and 14.
New members are Mary Greaser, Nancy Cutright, Lillian and J.C. Sanders and Edna Hopkins.
Janet Smith of APPLE presented a lot of information on prescription drug coverage under the new Medicare law.
