The Town and Country FCE club met July 14 for its annual picnic in the New McKendree United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Originally the picnic was scheduled to be at Jackson City Park. Due to hot and humid weather conditions, the picnic committee consisting of Lois Seabaugh, Karen Murphy and Donna Woolsey changed the location. The committee purchased fried chicken from Food Giant and members brought side dishes. Family members were guests of the club.
A brief business meeting was held by Mary Klaproth, president. Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Sue Jones, secretary. The minutes were approved as read. A thank-you note was read from Parkview State School for the end-of-school party on May 20. Pennies for Friendship were collected and the treasurer's report was given by Donna Woolsey. The report was approved as read.
Klaproth made the following announcements: Membership dues will be collected for 2017 at the next club meeting on Aug. 11. The vice president's meeting to select programs for 2017 will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Perryville, Missouri. Any club member may attend this meeting, The rental fee for the shelter at the park had been used as the door prize for the picnic. The picnic committee chose meeting at Homecomers in uptown Jackson for club out. Members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the south side of the courthouse lawn. Members were reminded to bring their own lawn chair.
The next club meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the home of Linda Thompson. Jones will present the program on technology.
